Odyssey Battery Owners, How Long Did Yours Last?

My lightweight Odyssey battery (it was labeled as a Black Panther battery, but it's the same thing, made by the same company, etc) is now seven years old, and still holds a charge. I keep it fully charged. (Any time the car sits unused for more than a week, I plug in my onboard charger.) I see on the Odyssey website that they claim "a ten year design life and a three-to-eight year service life".

I'm just wondering if anyone here has had to replace an Odyssey battery, and if so, how long did yours last?

Don't know Ken, mine is still going strong 5+ years or so now.

I don't keep it fully charged as I don't have an on-board-charger. When I leave the car parked I disconnect the battery at the isolator switch so there is no drain. Even after some months, it still starts first time.

I was thinking about installing another odyssey in my road car. However my road car has an alarm and currently has the big, huge and heavy lead-acid type, it will sit for 2 months with the alarm on and still be able to start the car.

Now, if I put the Odyssey in, how long will it run the alarm for before going flat?

Can I keep the alarm activated with the on-board charger going?

nsxstasy,

can you please tell me what kind of onboard charger you are using?

I am also using lightweight Odyssey battery, I definitely need to recharge my battery.

I bought the Odyssey 680 battery and the mounting bracket together.
I found out that after only three days my car would not start anymore. Probably because of my alarm which caused a considerable drain on the battery. But perhaps mine was not 100% ok although it looked fine.
Replaced it with a normal battery afterwards again.

I am using the Schumacher SE-1-12S 1.5 Amp Fully Automatic Onboard Maintainer/Charger. It is available for $26.99 here. The manufacturer's website shows it here.

Thanks Ken!

I know I didn't answer your question but yours and MvM replies definitely answered mine.

Thanks again.
