oem 94 wheels on a 98

I believe the only difference between the wheels is in the finish (color of the paint).

IOW, yes.

Yes, all years of the 16"/17" OEM wheels are exactly the same except for color.

great, thanks. I looked in the FAX

and found that the wheels are 16x7 and 17x8.5...

what would the ideal r compound tire sizing be for wheels of this size? stick with stock 215's and 245's?

Thanks

Please help....

I have tried to answer this question on my own, but it seems no r compound manufacturer makes this size combination. what are you guys running r's doing?

if I were to not buy these oem wheels, and could buy ANYTHING else for track wheels, what would you recommend? Prefer to stay with either a 16/17 or 17's all around...

Yes, but I will use a small spacer, which is what I am doing now anyway.

I saw those sizes, that looked like the only option to me. I thought that by going with 16/17's I would have more choices.

That won't clear the stock wheels.

Wait a minute, I think I misunderstood what you mean. The 16" wheel will not fit over the caliper on the inner diameter of the wheel, will it?

AFAIK:

The Brembo you have Justin will not fit the stock wheels, as the rotor pushes it farther out from the hub.

The Porsche (Brembo OEM) kit Andrie has will fit the 16" stock wheels, with a 22mm spacer.

Chris is exactly right. The Brembo uses 12.9" Rotor, and require clearance of 384mm inner diameter wheels. Which the 16" stock do not have. Not only that, the distance from the hub to the spoke (horizontal distance x-axis) has to be minimum of 40mm.

So the answer is, NO. U can not use the stock wheels for your brembo kit. Not even if u use spacers.

I hear you guys, thanks for the insight. I cant believe I forgot about that... obviously why this discussion group is so good.

I think I found an r compound configuration that would work with current wheels. the BFGoodrich g-Force T/A R1a come in: 205/50ZR17 or 235/40ZR17 front
265/35ZR18 or 275/40ZR18 or 285/30ZR18 rear.
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Sizes.jsp?make=BFGoodrich&model=g-Force+T%2FA+R1%2Cg-Force+T%2FA+R1A

These tires are being discontinued, but other manufactures, like the Kumho's, will likely make other sizes by the time I wear these out.

So, here is my question: If I have 17x7.5 and 18x9 in wheels, which combination of above should I buy? Will the 235/40 fit the 17x7.5" wheel?

Thanks, Justin

if you want to use the stock 16" front, I think you move to a 12.4" rotor, and either Brembo or tar-ox calipers. Most bigger rotor (12.9/13/etc) require at least a 17-inch front to clear it diametrically (and sometimes a spacer to clear it axially).

Am sure you can adapt other lower-cost calipers (Wilwood, etc) to the 12.4 rotor as well.

NSX1164, thanks but I am really happy with my brakes, I am keeping them, so will stay with a 17" front wheel. Just trying to find the right tires now, almost feel back to square 1.

Justin,

don't get any of those tires. But get 225/45/17 and 265/35/18 the new Kumho Ecsta 700. Even though the front is taller, they are not that much taller than 235/40/17. If u rub with 235, u will rub with 225. With either one, u can't use traction control. But who cares, we're in the track right. 235, will guarantee that the tires won't get proper tire pressure. Few people actually uses 225/45/17 in the front, for instance Wei Shen Chin, from Chin motorsport, NSXflorida.

IMO, the perfect sizes for your wheels would be 205/40/17 and 245/40/18 which Hoosier has. However, Hoosier tires are strongly not recommended for driving on the street. While their sidewalls are stiff, their tread area don't have any steel belts. And I see them cut even in the paddock. They are very soft. I can't imagine if it hits the highway cracks the wrong way.

So if u decide to go with the new Kumho (which is already available BTW), go with 225/45/17 and 265/35/18. While the rear is not optimal, it will work quite nice. The front however are still optimal, since the profile is higher than 205/40/17.

Don't get too fixated on the width of the tires. While wider is better on certain instances, those tires sizes I recommend will work better than any street tires or wider tires on that particular wheels.

BTW, AP also makes brake kit that come with 12.4" rotors that fit the NSX stock 16" wheels. However, RM don't sell them.
