I have a 1991 Acura NSX w/ OEM Bose head-unit & OEM Alpine 6-disc changer in the trunk (M-Bus 8-pin). I want to keep the OEM head-unit and add a MP3 player, so I will buy an "Aux. Input Converter" (PIE Hon-Aux: http://www.logjamelectronics.com/piehonaux.html ). I see myself adding more devices in the future, so I will also buy an "AUX3" (Soundgate AUX3: http://www.logjamelectronics.com/soundaux3.html ).

I wish to use one of my newly-added 'Auxiliary Inputs' to use an OEM Honda/Acura single-disc CD-player ('92-'98, single-DIN, 8-pin) mounted in my glove-box instead of my trunk-mounted OEM Alpine 6-disc changer. Does this seem feasible?

Both the single-disc player & CD-changer are separate OEM units, lacking a tuner & having no controls/displays, 8pin, require an OEM head-unit w/ CD-controls, etc'... :confused:

Schematic:

1991 ACURA NSX:

currently:
OEM Bose head-unit-8pin = OEM Alpine 6-disc changer M-Bus- 8pin

planning:
OEM Bose head-unit-8pin = Mp3 player + OEM Honda/Acura 1-disc single-DIN CD-player-8pin

Needed:

PIE HON-AUX Auxiliary Input Converter + Soundgate AUX3

???

If this isn't possible, anyone got any different ideas, but same objective/goal: compact, single/multi CD-changer in the cabin... Thanks!!!

Certainly not plug n play. The OEM head has a DIN input and the Soundgate device is for RCA inputs/output. The PIE is DIN, but has no additional input capability, just RCA so no ability to utlize the changer when this device is used.

The only device I know of that will allow two devices into the OEM DIN is the Blitzsafe which will allow an Alpine CD changer (DIN connection)and another RCA device; I suppose you could use the Soundgate in conjunction with the Blitz' to utilize multiple auxiliary inputs.

single-disc oem cd players?

Okie... thanks D'Ecosse/Ken! Got that established, Blitzsafe for aux. input. If wanting to use the trunk-mounted OEM changer along w/ mp3 device, need aux. adapter, ok.

Regarding those Honda/Acura OEM single-disc CD-players that come separate from the OEM head-unit... could one of those work w/ the Blitz & aux. adapter (for mult. aux's)? :confused:

Not familiar with it - if it's MBus it will work. You would have to select either that or a changer though, can't have 2 DIN connected devices.
The simplest way to get mp3 capability & CD's is of course to get a CHA-S634; if you still want to use an external mp3 player or XM, etc couple it with the Blitzsafe; if you want multiple AUX devices using RCA outputs, that's where your Soundgate multiplexer would come in.

PITA, sigh...

Gotcha. I just want a single CD-player that I can install inside my glove-box. It would replace the trunk mounted OEM CD-changer. I find it incredibly inconvenient to be located back there. Also, I hardly ever have more than 1 or 2 CD's in the changer.

I'll be primarily using the mp3 player, but would wish to retain the ability to play compact discs (sans' CD-changer) in case need-be.

Hence... OEM head-unit -> mp3 player + Honda/Acura single-disc player (glovebox) + ability to add device later

OEM Alpine CD-changer -> mothballed

p.s. The techni-colour screen is next on the list, just need to source an 8mm projector... :biggrin:
