Official 2025 F1 thread.....

What a strategic blunder by Red Bull putting on Hards - I jumped out of my seat in disbelief. Could have had the lead with only a few laps left, and no initial DRS. Maclaren would've blown by, but might have been able to hold out for a podium. No chance with the hards.

And then Red Bull compounded it by ordering Max to give back the position after replays clearly showed Max getting hit first by Leclerc, and then an out-of-control Russel, bashing him into the escape route. And no consequence for either Leclerc or Russel from FIA stinks.

But still, come on Max, unacceptable form putting other drivers in danger over your frustration with losing traction during the restart.

FIA should have given him a 1 race ban, but they don't want him picking up a ride in LeMans and pulling fans towards a much better spectacle.

Mclaren in control - both Piastri and Norris were quick and had the free air to keep their tyres in good condition whilst others struggled. Leclerc benefited from keeping a second set of mediums back for the race.
Max lost it, saw red, and played the victim when in fact he was the problem. Why Red Bull put him on the hard tyre instead of leaving him in the lead on a soft tyre is beyond me - it sent him into a rage, especially as he had no grip at all in the final corner on the restart and very nearly swapped ends in front of Leclerc. Leclerc got past him after contact on the main straight, and Russell followed the Ferrari though before Max took to the “escape road” and gained an advantage, coming out about 5 car lengths ahead of the Mercedes. RB told him to give the place back, which annoyed him even more than being put on the wrong tyre, he then tried to take Russel out as he passed…
(As an aside, why doesn’t this (short-cut) route have a chicane like Monza turn 1?)
Hamilton was caught at the end, despite being on the right tyre, by the Hulk’s Sauber - a great day for the green team at the expense of Ferrari.
Another great green result was Alonso - he made the best overtakes of the race driving round opponents in turn 4 a number of times - why hasn’t he had this pace before this race?
Looking forward to Canada in a couple of weeks - which Max will turn up - the hero or the villain?

So Maxipad has 11 points on the license..1 more and they have to take a race ban. I agree that runoff lane is suis generous in that configuration. I did not realize that GR has no binding contract for next year...

Not the most exciting Canadian Grand Prix, but at least the result keeps interest in the constructors race.
Well done to Mercedes - first and third is their best result for many years.Max up there as ever, but never seriously looking like he could win. Oscar got taken by Kimi at the start and never challenged for a podium place. Lando went for a gap that was clearly not there, and paid the price, fortunately without hindering his team mate. Ferrari were nowhere - Lewis because of damage caused by running into an unfortunate groundhog, and Chales because he and the team were running different strategies. The rest was prety processional, with Stroll squeezing Gasly onto the grass, and Colopinto ruining Albon’s day by not leaving enough room on a lap 1 pass.
Points for Alonso again.
Driver of the day - Kimi - first podium for the kid.

Yea Lando chose the more risk, possible higher reward outside move, but should have gone right, where most of the track was..He owned it though..maybe he wants to show he is a fighter...but his personality says otherwise..I'm impressed with Russies' racecraft..

^ Sure, if you looked at the frontrunners, then yes. But further down the field there were some hot battles with plenty of overtaking. At one point there were about 12 cars with DRS swapping positions each lap. Alonso and Lawson were less than a second apart for countless laps.
The Ferrari pair were not in contention with the McLarens, but still comfortably ahead of George Russell, who in turn was comfortably ahead of the rest.
Shame that Albon had a problem - he was flying at one point.
Great result for Sauber, and Alonso, but mostly for Liam Lawson - best RB car by far this weekend - out qualified Max, and delivered where Hadjar and Tsunoda didn’t.

I am a Tifosi, so unless Ferrari is at the front, it is a less than exciting race.
ESPN (Sky) doesn’t show much other than the front runners, and once the Norris - Piastri battle was spread out, I really lost focus to watch.

Well yea the shortest lap will bunch the field up so always midfield battles, just glad piastres' flat spotting lunge did not result in shunt...I like the hulk, older guy no drama..

An amazing race, spoilt a bit by safety cars and the teams not using the full rain tyre - what are they there for if no-one uses them?
I thought that the penalty for Oscar was harsh - Max should have been penalised for sailing past the de facto safety cars - as the lights had gone out of the Merc course car, Oscar becomes the safety cars and can choose the pace of the pack.
Lots of great performances, plus some poor choices (wrong conditions, wrong tyre, wrong application of throttle)
Lando did nothing wrong and was a worthy winner - Oscar drove faultlessly (IMHO) and the Hulk drove the race of his life.
Stroll too drove really well but the choice of the soft for the final stint let him down - he should have finished 5th but was swallowed up by Max and Gasly as his tyres gave up. Albon battled Alonso at the end and beat him, with Russell getting the last point after being on the wrong tyre for about half the race. Bearman and Sainz were nowhere.
Leclerc was about as effective as a chocolate coffee pot and the rest should really have a long hard think about how to drive in the wet - only Lawson and Kiki were blameless here as they were taken out by the poor driving of others.
Bortoletto needs to be reminded that if your car is damaged to that extent, you don’t try to limp round the track to get to the pits to retire the car - you should park it out of the way so as to not bring out a safety car…

Everyone was whining about the 10 s penalty, but Lando would probably have won with just a 5 s penalty as well. That said, the stewards had the race data, not all the pundits, and that penalty says there was some hanky panky in there. Hard enough to drive in those conditions without someone driving erratically.

^ Oscar only braked the once - when the safety cars light went out, which means that he is the safety car. He has to let it get out of the way before restarting - which is exactly what he did. The fact that Max wasn’t paying attention is not Oscar’s issue.
OK, perhaps he braked too hard, but braking once can hardly be called erratic.
Also, I think Oscar was unlucky considering he had a 13 second lead before the safety car… but that’s racing I suppose.
Back to the blue Wet tyre, why didn’t anyone use it - if no-one is going to use it, even behind the safety cars, whyt do they bring it to every race?
