Its about time for my next scheduled oil change. This will be the first oil change since I've bought the car and I wanted to get some advice and hear what types of oil different NSXers use and recommend. Any suggestions? Thanks for any help.

Thanks Forum Nazi (heh, like the name), as you could tell, I'm new to the forum community as well! appreciate the info

Thanks mustafa, seems like mobil 1 is almost everyone's choice. =) I had a friend of mine recommend Valvoline's VR1 Racing Synthetic and another recommend AMSoil. Just getting a general opinion of it all. Thanks for your post

I have a new 2001. If I plan to use Mobil 1, should I put it in now, or wait till the car has about 10K miles to allow for engine break-in. I've heard some say not to put in synthetic until the engine parts wear together. Any opinions?

Wait until at least 5,000 miles for critical parts to seat.

Wait until at least 5,000 miles because Honda ships its new cars with special break-in oil. Allow the break-in oil to stay in for 5,000 miles before changing it.

Agreed. Here's what Woodwork posted on 02/02/1999.

Yes guys, Honda does use a special oil in the engine when it comes from
the factory. That is why we recommend leaving the oil in for at least 5000
miles. 7,500 is better.
Don't ask me what it is, I don't know, I do know that the engine
engineers really get pissed when the oil comes out of the engine before it
should. Want your engine to last the longest possible? Leave in the
factory fill oil.
Hope this helps.

And in another related message... posted on 03/17/2000... with the subject of "Mobile 1 and oil consumption"

<< it is normal for a high performance car like the nsx to eat oil?
2000 miles since my last oil change of Mobil 1 10W 30....
it ate a quart. >>

Keep in mind guys that Mobil 1 has been blamed for not letting the rings seat on
a new engine. We have proved it several times. That is why I, when on my soap
box, I say to let the break-in oil do it's job for at least 7,500 miles.

Most factory reps will say anything over 1000 miles per quart is not excessive.

Please don't change the oil till 7,500 miles.
