Oil Filter Housing Question

Anyone know what the spring that is in the bolt that connects the oil filter housing to the cooler does? I want to bypass my water cooler unit and use a remote air to oil cooler. I already have these laying around and want to put them to good use.

Hi Ken,

I beleive that is the oil pressure bypass valve, that allows oil to bypass the oil filter in the case of very cold/thick oil with oil pressure exceeding what is expected for the filter.

Thanks Larry. Would anyone know where to purchase a 22mm x 1" long threaded tube? I want to mount a new top plate to bypass the stock cooler to an external cooler. Ken
