The prev. owner and his son had both their NSX's lower bumpers painted Red to match the body. They had seen it done on a 91 exhibited at the factory museum in Toshigi on their tour in 99. No other paint work has been done on this car. My question is:
1) How common is (or was) this mod?

2) Go back to black? Or leave as is?

It match's perfectly, just not quite sure if I like it yet.
(1st one I have seen) But am new to NSX ownership.

If you page down on this post to 4/20/05, you will see the Red car with the Tubi exhaust. Thoughts?

Congratulations on your new NSX. She looks great!

1) not very common. I have only came across 2~3 nsx in Southern Cal has it painted.

2) You are the person who can best answer this question. If you do prefer have it unpainted. You can always pick up a clean used unpainted one for dirt cheap.

This is another style. This car only has a small section of the pre-02 rear lower bumper painted, in combination with the wing west rear spat, it looks very similar to 02 rear.

If you are looking for a lower rear valence off I have one for sale. I posted an ad in the Parts for Sale section. The valence is off my 95 and is Formula Red. PM me for pics.

Holy cow! That is exactly what I was thinking of trying. I just wasn't sure about how it would look in the end. I think I like it!

Motegi, I'm the owner of the vehicle, and I'm going for the OEM 02 valence.
Before you sent this to body shop and paint the wing west sprats, make sure, make sure the sprats are secured by some sort of screws, studs,anchor... just don't only use 3M tape and other "sticky agent" As my body shop did.

It looked good and stayed that way for half year, last month, one of the sprats fell off, as it hit the ground, the rear tire caught it, tear the front screws off the bumper, and procceed to trim my fender liner and scratched paint off right at the fender lip...
Needless to say, my car will be at the shop next week, repainting the whole fender... Wingwest kit is a piece of junk... But if you secure it Correctly (mainly the back side.) and cut at least 3 half inches hole at the bottom, (for water drainage), clean up periodically, (yeah tire chuck, road debris, rocks are all happy together in there, and that, again, put some additional weight on the sprats.)... it could be an alternative option (cheap) to get the 02 look.

Been there, done that....
