Hey Guys,

I've been searching through and found a bunch of old posts about painting the factory rims. I was wondering if any of you had pics of the finished product and any additional tips for doing this.

Thanks!
Randy

Hi--I repainted my 92 rims with Griot's wheel paint. The trick is to be sure you thoroughly clean the rims, sand the surfaces, and fill any imperfections with filler. Use a good automotive primer and wet sand between primer coats so that the wheels are perfectly smooth. Griot's silver is the shade that is used on Mercedes and some Ferrari rims. The shae is close to the NSX shade but perhaps slightly brighter and slightly more metallic. Griot's has both the color and clearcoat. I did mine 2 years ago( approx 12k miles) and they've held up very well. I do have a couple of dings though from having 2 sets of tires mounted and alignments--but not bad at all. Paint is not as rugged as powder coating for sure, but I've been happy with the results. Before I bring the car anywhere for work I ask that they be careful with the painted wheels ( and I remove the center caps myself)--so far, everyone has respected that request and there has been a minimum of marring to date.

Re: pics, I'll send some to your email address. This site always rejects my pics for being too large.
