Ok, maybe not a disaster but it still sucked. Bought the car from a Virginia (DC area) dealer. Drove from Atlanta in my R8 to trade in on the NSX. Picked up the NSX yesterday and drove back to Atlanta this morning.

When the NSX specialist delivered the car, he sat in the passenger seat while I sat in the driver seat. I asked him where the cigarette lighter plug was located and he told me the car didn't have one. I asked if he was sure there wasn't one in the passenger footwell as I've had several cars in the past that placed the outlet there. He confidently tells me that Acura chose not to install cigarette lighters because no one smokes in the cars and they installed USB outlets instead. So when I removed the V1 radar from my R8, I stuck it in my luggage since I couldn't power it.

I'd only owned the car for 12 hours when I start my drive back to Atlanta. And I get pulled over for "reckless driving". I was going 14 miles over the limit. I questioned whether 14 miles constituted reckless as I always thought reckless was 15 miles over. I thought to myself...if only my radar worked.

I stopped in Charlotte to meet a friend for work and I let him drive the NSX. I sit in the passenger seat and I can see the cigarette lighter plug plain as day. I'm perplexed how the NSX specialist could not see it when I specifically asked him if it was located on the passenger side footwell. In fairness, I probably wouldn't have used the radar at that point as I was still in VA where they're illegal. And if I were just paying attention to Waze, I would have seen the warning of the speed trap. I asked the officer if he could give me a break since I just got the car...he said no. A quick Google search informed me that this specific county makes a lot of money from these speed traps. According to one of many law firms that handle tickets in this area, "reckless driving" is the most common offense. So I have to pick a lawyer and let them do their thing.

Shifting gears, a few questions about the car:

1. When I walk to the door, the handle pops up like it should. However, I sometimes have to pull on it 2-3 times for the door to open. As an example, the handle would pop up but when I pull it the first time, the door is still locked. When I release it and pull it again, the door unlocks and opens. Is this normal?

2. This one has me totally perplexed. I paired my Galaxy S8 but whenever I make or receive a call, the call starts in "Private Mode" which means the car recognizes the call through Bluetooth but the call itself is router to the handset speaker. I have to wait for the call to connect, then press "Transfer" to route the call to the car's Bluetooth speaker system. I've tried unpairing and re-pairing. Unpairing, rebooting, and re-pairing. Same thing. I went through the entire Android menu and cannot find any settings related to "Private Mode" for calls. Anyone else had this experience?

TIA

I can help you on #1 . Grab the handle and wait a half second (maybe less) before you pull. Mine opens every time this way. When I just flick it immediately, I have the same issue. I am no help on #2 .

I have a question. What year R8. I have some experience in the first gen and there is no comparison, NSX is better handler and performer. I have no experience in the gen2, which seems to be a slightly better on paper, but natural competitor for the NSX. FWIW, the gen2 didn't interest me much because I felt it was much worse looking than the fist gen. Also, pics or it didn't happen lol

Well congrats on the purchase. That really sucks about the ticket and the sales person not telling you about the 12v power outlet.

The door handle is supposed to act like that. There are settings in the menu if you want both to pop out, or just the drivers door.

I also have a Galaxy S8 and for some reason the infotainment puts the bluetooth into private mode if you dial from the phone. I have no idea why it does this, pretty stupid, and bugs me all the time. I imported my most frequently called numbers and use the phone controls on the screen to dial. If you connect to the USB port between the seats and use the Android auto app, you can dial from the phone and it'll connect through the car.

Lastly, join the Second Generation Owners Group on FB. There is a wealth of info about the car there.

When connected to the Bluetooth, if you initiate or answer a call using the actual phone it is assumed you don’t want speakerphone at that time. So you get the “private mode” displayed and all the audio is from the phone only.

If you initiate or answer a call using any of the vehicle’s controls, then it is assumed you want the audio on speakerphone.

That's really stupid. No other car I own or have ever owned does that. Even the loaner Acura's I get don't do that.

Actually, our earlier Handsfreelink systems did function that way. The latest infotainment setup which is internally called ODMD (with the two screens) does not, which you have seen. However, the NSX uses a very different infotainment system called DA (single touch screen). The DA system is much more prevalent in Hondas.

You’ve got me curious now. I haven’t tested the all new system in the 2019 RDX yet to see what it does in this particular situation.

I’ve had a few RDX loaners and they don’t go into privacy mode when you dial from the phone.

Congrats on the purchase.
Took me two weeks to get my ticket.
Cop was a jerk, I went "The Ticket Clinic" route, took almost a year, but it was dismissed, whoo hoo!
They have a great business model.

1st Ticket...

I received my 1st ticket within 24 hours in Utah, near Bear Lake.
Bought the car in SLC and was driving it home to Omaha.
He was coming out to his pick'em up truck from the donut shop/gas station.
He said that he could tell I was going fast but no radar gun cause he was chompin' on a donut, wrote me for passing in a no passing zone...
$120 no points & no report to Geico!

My "Specialist" told me the same thing: no 12v socket. I called the dealership owner who had been part of the initial launch training and he told me where it was.

Congrats on the purchase!

Yeah bummer on the ticket. I would do my best not to do any business in Virginia because of stuff like that. On a recent road trip, I made sure my tank was full before I crossed over the border. Made my wife wait until North Carolina to stop.
