Police shred 7 street racer cars

Ouch, ITR.

guess you guys didn't see the last pic. Its a sad sight but these kids deserve it for riding around in stolen parts.

I applaud their efforts. The pieces of excrement who cruise around in those cars with stolen parts should be jailed and their cars destroyed.

Just my two cents but I'd strip the cars, resell the parts. Use the funds for a charity or help fund some city project.

Can they do that if there is a lien on the vehicle?

I would have expected a digested car to take up more space than that.

I was thinking the same thing. If they knew there were stolen parts in the car, why didn't they return them to the people who reported them stolen?

where did you find this pic? And is that a photoshopped NSX in the grapple of that crane? :frown:

Nope. That's real. I can spot a photoshop job from a meter away. It had a stolen B16 in it.

 Actually the more I look at the picture, the more the whole thing looks shopped. The tractors, cars and water tower all look fake.

just noticed the lighting on the hood of the NSX... its fake

I think the "stolen" parts is a load of crap. 99% of the time some cop says that the engine VIN # doesn't match the car vin#... No shit sherlock... 90% of the "racer" hondas running around have swaped engines, but that doesn't make it stolen.

I had a different built engine block in my car (the stock one had a rod pushed through one side... made it difficult to hold oil...;p) but that doesn't mean it was stolen by any means.

How much of the parts on cars are second hand anyway these days? I buy something for my car off the user for sale section here and its automatically stolen goods? How can they prove ANY OF THIS.

If it was substaintiated good for them, more power to em. I just fear that it is nothing more than the law beating up on kids who don't have the means to defend themselves.

It's ok for you to think that its a load of crap, but there was no mention in the article of VIN matching. How do you know what method was used to determine if the parts were stolen ?

The truth is, if its a swapped engine in a Honda, it is most likely stolen - especially if it is in CA.

The article didn't say that, but thats typically how they have "determined" that in the past.

You gotta realize that our VIN system isn't going to have any of the VIN #'s for JDM vehicles... so stolen or not a JDM swapped engine won't pull up any information whatsoever.

It would be like trying to run a VIN on a Skyline for legalization... that info won't be in there system.

In CA if you swap an engine in a car, you are required to notify the DMV, get SMOG, etc. If the owners of these swapped engine vehicles didn't do that, then I guess its hard for them to argue that they were not breaking the law...stolen parts or not.

Well, a stolen vin will show up as stolen vin. Anything just like you said, will show up as clean or non existent.

When i swapped motors in my truck, I didn't know you needed to notify DMV???? It was the same motor too though..... Maybe you mean when you swap to different motors? Like from B16 to H22, and you gotta get it ref'd?

You are correct. Generally you don't need any approvals for same/same motors. It applies to putting a motor in a car that isn't same/same. If you change motors, you have to check w/ the BAR (Bureau of Automotive Repair) ref to ensure the motor you are putting in is approved for that vehicle. I should have said BAR, not DMV. It's more of a smog issue than a registration issue.

It's silly to destroy these cars. Adding insult to injury. It's a shame that these innocent cars are punished twice. Abused by their owners and killed by the cops.
