Has anyone ever stripped all the paint off of an NSX and polished the bare aluminum? Would that not look cool? It would save some weight too.

Regards,

Patrick

I want to know who did the aluminum work to your hood. Specificly, the vent on the aluminum hood chasis.

That is one of the very rare Dali Racing single scooped hoods. I bought it in 2000 I think. I took about 6 months to get. I should have kept it, I really miss that hood.
I polished it myself. Took me about a month to do.

I remember when Audi was like 5-10 pounds over the limit to race, so they took off the whole paint and I belive they won the race. The car is now known as the silver arrows if memory serve me correctly.

The Audi Avus Quattro was finished in polished aluminium which recalled the racing heritage of the Auto Union record-breakers of the 1930's. The mid engined (6.0 litre W12 509 bhp) Avus concept car was first displayed at the 1991 Frankfurt Motor Show.

Your story is almost right - but it was Mercedes (Silver Arrow is still one of their nick names in F 1). Read the story here . At that time Audi didn't yet exist - these where "Auto-Union".

BTW: I recall that someone here posted a pic a while ago of a NSX body from the factory when it was unpainted - too lazy to search...

Audi celebrates it as their tradition.
Mercedes also seems to have car car referenced to it.
I can assure you: Nobody in Germany associates "Silberpfeil" with Audi or Auto Union.
The car in your 2nd link isn't the original silver arrow from the 30s - it's one of its grand sons...

It appears to trancend all kinds of things in Germany.
Like Bikes, Horses, cuttlery ect.

I know of the cars and their era. This would be one from the era.

My point was that Audi, has attached themselves to Silver Arrow as well. It seemed that after Auto - Union their was some division of the use of the name.

Either way, I am off topic and choose not to go Tit for tat.
I was just pointin out how the Silver Arrow moniker could be misconstrued by people not from Germany.

After a good dose of inspiration from my own NSX polishing work, my co-worker Brent just had to compete with me on the bling to compliment his fully built motor.

He embarked on a huge project this winter to polish his Cobra with fantastic results. Absolutely blinding to see parked here at Microsoft on summer days. Break out the shades.

That looks AWESOME!

I wish I had the time/patience/money etc. to do the same! Trully unique!

Wonder if there is a chrome colored paint for the plastic parts.
Solid Chrome car would be sweet.

It is in the paint department at Wal Mart. I just bought some last night to try on some plastic wheel caps. BTW, it is spray paint.

I don't think the NSX would look too great all polished. Unless you could get an aluminum bumper, rear valence, wing, etc...

All or nothing IMO.

There is that new chrome paint that they are painting cars in now... It has been posted here before but I am lazy to search...

i think that new paint looks more silver than chrome... i assume youre talking about the stuff being used on some of the new benzes (or planned on being used, dunno if it's actually hit the streets). some stuff using nanotech ..... that hood looks pretty amazing though.

Find the BMW thread painted chrome..it's incredible!!
