Post deleted for telling people to stay on topic? Why?

Okay...I am a bit confused. I posted in a thread trying to help by telling people that were on a rant about CarFax to stop acting like children, take it elsewhere, and keep the thread on track to help the original poster achieve his goal of getting information and opinions about a specific car, and my post was deleted. Did I do something wrong by attempting to keep a thread on track?

Mitch - If you read the comment in the PM notification it explains that I moved all the carfax discussion out of that thread. So a reply telling people to stay on topic no longer made any sense.
