Power Steering vs. No Power Steering

There is a noticable difference in the feel, probably due to the fact that the power steering cars also have a different steering ratio than the manual steering cars.

Ok, well I own a 92 and was wondering, given the choice and assuming that you did not mind the increase in steering effort, which one is the most preferrable in terms of driving 'feel'. Which one seems more precise? Does the ps create less feedback than the manual or is the manual less desirable to the ps models?

Remember, there's no power assist above 35 mph, so the only difference between the two will be due to the steering ratio.

Personally, I find the manual steering on my '91 is great. I don't find the effort needed for low-speed parking maneuvers is excessive. And I think the steering on the NSX is just about perfect - it goes exactly where you point it.

I agree with NSXTASY, I don't even notice 90% of the time that I don't have power steering. I think the only time you'd want power steering is for parallel parking or tight low speed turns, but since I never parallel park mine I don't need it.

The ratio isn't the only difference but it is probably the main one. The manual and power steering racks are very different mechanisms even when the power assist is not active and thus would probably feel a little different even with the same ratio.

Some people like the manual steering better, a few like the power steering better. I have owned both and think they are both very good overall, just a little different. I prefer the power steering at double-digit speeds and the manual at high speeds.

I always thought the manual steering felt heavy at any "around town" speed. But once you get it up around 80 MPH it to feels just right to me. That is not to say I disliked the manual steering around town or even when parking, I simply prefer the lighter/quicker feel of the power steering at lower speeds.

Both provide excellent road feel.
