power wire

Hi there, I was just wondering how the power wire gets into the interior of the car, do you guys install it form the battery or the power terminal in the engine bay to the interior of the car? if any of you have pics of where to get this into the vehicle that would be great.

thanks in advance.

If you want to mount the amps behind the seats or in the cab, I ended up drilling a hole in my driver floorboard. It's just about the ONLY place you really can drill w/o risking damage to something. I ran it straight to the battery.

be careful, there's a REALLY small area you can drill for it that I looked and found on the driver side because my amp went behind the driver seat. This was after lots of help from someone else who did the same on his car. The spot was maybe 2" x 2" to drill a hole.

I tapped into the positive side of the main fuse box in the engine bay. It is fairly easy to get power to the passenger compartment from there, if that is where you wish to mount your amps. I put mine behind the driver's seat. You will have to remove the airbox to gain access to a large grommet that leads to the passenger area. Of course, you will have to remove the panel behind the driver’s seat also. You also have to cut a notch in the fuse cover to clear the wire in order to get the cover to close properly.

You could easily route the power wire to the trunk also.

I attached a low quality cell phone photo of the location I am talking about.

Good luck,

Nate in DC

I did the same thing and then pulled it through an available hole in the trunk, amp is in the trunk on the right side when looking at the trunk, but it would be just as easy to get it into the cabin . Pretty easy actually compared to some other cars.

Fuse box is good for say.....max 8 ga. I think the main power cable for the car is (guessing) no bigger than a 6 gauge.

If you want to run a big amp, even 2 big amps like you stated. I wouldn't go the fuse box route. Unless of course, it's those small amps like those tiny size and small power draw sony amps thats about the size of 3 cd cases put together.

ok, good idea, I might tone down on the amps and go that route, any ideas on the wiring situation, i put a aftermarket deck into the car, is there wires in the door areas that I can use or do i have to use my own wire for that area?

Just run RCAs and remote wire down the tunnel. In the doors, remove the bose stuff. You can then use the existing speaker already ran in the car. I personally feel that the oem wire is sufficient for running mids/highs. You can run new wire, but that's a pain in the @ss. If you still want more "wire gauge", you can always use the power wires used to power the in door bose amp as speaker wire to double up, and wire up the aftermarket amp speaker wires up to those also.

i ran a single 8 gauge wire from the battery, through the firewall on the drivers side (theres a rubber grommet there already) and then used a distribution box near the steering column to send power to each amp. i have two small pioneer amps under the dash, one on each side. these power the door speakers as well as tweeters. i also have another small amp that powers the floor sub and the rear center speaker. the previous owner had these amps in place already, but used shoddy wiring coupled with power drawn from the stock amp wiring. it shorted out and blew fuses all the time.

This is not applicable to the question but a neat site anyhow. You guys have probably seen it. HERE

Is there enough room in that hole for 3 pairs of rca's and the associated speaker wires?

Thanks
Rich

I have one RCA and three sets of speaker cables. Car is set up with separates in the door and a sub in the footwell, 4 channel amp with rear two bridged for the sub. I think it would be pretty tight for two additional sets of RCA's. I am not home right now(in Germany for work) otherwise I would go take a look. There is a grommet that is on the trunk fire wall on the right side, however the previous owner tried to do an install and did a terrible job, and cut it up badly. I need to get a new grommet, but it hasnt been an issue though. You could always pull back your trunk carpet and take a look, or you could try to look at it from the engine side....if you haven't or don't want to I will look and take pictures for you when I get back on July 4th.

you can route power through existing holes in the firewall (front and rear)
It's kinda scary that some resorted to DRILLING HOLES in the floor board:eek: .

If anyone needs help PM me.
