It's time to change my tires and while the tires are off the wheels I want to repair some curb rash supplied by the previous owner and powdercoat my wheels. I have 2 questions on prepping my wheels for the powdercoating process.

Is it necessary to remove the lug stud inserts from my wheels?

Do the 02 - 05 stock wheels have hub-centric rings? I don't easily see them unless they are pressed in so well that they look like part of the wheel.

My owners manual and a search here on Prime didn't find any info.

Almost all OEM wheels never have hubcentric rings because the wheels are designed from the beginning to fit that vehicle.

What color are you doing?

I've been thinking of Gunmetal as well.

My wheels will be done tomorrow, I picked out a gun metal color, and believe me there are a whole lot of colors to choose from, and also the finish, matte, gloss, clear coat, etc...and depending on how hard the coating is to remove from your wheels, (they are sand blasted first) will determine the price from what I am told as it is all done by the hour. My guy is charging me 60 to 80 per wheel, Ill know more tomorrow..

Energy1 is right on when he talks about the variety of colors and finish. He is also right in the ballpark on price. My powdercoater is charging $50 per wheel, but I also had to spend $20 per wheel on sandblasting. I phoned several powdercoat places and prices ranged from $50 - $144 per wheel. The higher priced locations included the required sandblasting and/or offered an exchange program.

I am not sure which blasting method my guy used, sand, bead, or seed, Ill have to ask, but they turned out good, not the perfect color but Ill see if I like it ok..here is a pic from euro sunday..
