In pursuing my ultimate dream of purchasing an NSX, I am in the process of selling my S2000. I am learning so much from reading everyones post. What is the best source to figure out a fair price? I have looked at similiar ones in my area for sale and the prices are all over the place. When I type in my information on KBB.com I get a crazy high number around $21K and when I do the same for Edmunds.com it is a crazy low number like $8K. Why the descepency? Is KBB a respected source? Thanks.

It's tough to find a "fair price" on cars like the S2000 and NSX because the prices often fluctuate and the demand often exceeds supply. When I sold my S2000 a while back, I sold it based on what other S2000s were going for in my area with similar mileage / condition. A car is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

$8k? and $21? you are looking for a project or worse. i think you need to reevaluate what you were looking for and expecting. Last I checked, the Nsx's value even for a 91 on edmunds with 50k miles weere going for $28k. 93 NSX with that mileage was going for $33k. if you are here to try and devalue the nsx, so you can buy one for cheap, try harder. sorry to come off negative, but i feel insulted when you insisted those numbers.

rwdforlife, what are you talking about????? I am referring to the prices that I am seeing for the S2000. Sorry if my post was not clear enough for you, but I trying to come up with a fair price to sell my S2000 so that I may have cash in hand ready to go to purchase and NSX. I am in no way trying to insult you or anyone else, just asking for your advice and opinions since most of you have experience and are familiar with KBB and Edmunds I assume. It appears that KBB's pricing is grossly inflated and I am not interested in ripping anyone off.

No offense but you should take this question to an s2000 forum.

I agree with this.

But my motto is, I don't care what any book or piece of paper says. It comes down to what someone is willing to pay. I usually research what current sales ads are for similar optioned cars and price accordingly. With the S2000, that should be fairly easy to price, unless it's modded. Then you might be able to add some value, or subtract some value.

Lol. I thought you were asking about Nsx prices too. Never dawned on me that you're asking for s2000 prices on an Nsx forum.

For most cars, you can get a pretty good estimate by going to Autotrader.com and searching nationwide for similar cars (mileage, version), etc. You can look at the listed price for most of them, tossing out the outliers at either end, then realize that those are asking prices and typically can be negotiated downwards by at least a little bit.

This doesn't work well for an extremely low-volume car like the NSX - neither will sites like KBB or Edmunds - but it should work for the S2000.

Also, you might try nada.com rather than KBB or Edmunds. NADA is generally more accurate.

As everyone here's alluded to, best place to research such would be S2000 oriented sites/forums (as well as Honda-centric boards w/ S2000 subforums). And couple that research w/ trends on Craigslist, ebay, Cars.com, Autotrader, CarMax, etc. And use NadaGuides, KBB, and Edmunds as resources & references. Also, some state DMV sites have a valuation/pricing tools (using a VIN).
