Wow, how did I miss this thread?
I have been using the sonicare for years and have recommended it to my patients, esp ones with sensitive gums. However, last year when it died I decided to give the new Oral B sonic brush a try and have been equally impressed. One thing I like about the OB over Philips is that it uses mechanical power instead of magnets to create the vibrations, which seems more hardy and less prone to breakage (my old sonicare brush head magnets would pop out once in a while and make the head ineffective).
I recommend any electric brush over manual brushing, simply because my patients can't be trusted with their teeth
