Product Review: Phillips Sonicare Toothbrush

Wow, how did I miss this thread?

I have been using the sonicare for years and have recommended it to my patients, esp ones with sensitive gums. However, last year when it died I decided to give the new Oral B sonic brush a try and have been equally impressed. One thing I like about the OB over Philips is that it uses mechanical power instead of magnets to create the vibrations, which seems more hardy and less prone to breakage (my old sonicare brush head magnets would pop out once in a while and make the head ineffective).

I recommend any electric brush over manual brushing, simply because my patients can't be trusted with their teeth

I almost gave up on Sonicare and went back to regular brushes. But my dentist had a good deal on the newer units that I found hard to pass up. I got the newer unit with the base charger, UV sanitizer, travel charger, and 2 brush heads for $80 from my dentist. I think Costco has almost the same thing except with 2 handles and 4 heads, 1 base with UV sanitizer and 1 travel charger for somewhere around $167 so it was slightly better than the Costco price.

I charged it overnight and just gave it a try. This is head and shoulders better than the old Sonicare. The new design is slimmer, easier to reach the back teeth, the brush head is better and my mouth feels a lot cleaner than the old one used to make it feel. If you have one of the older units with the magnets and the base that screws onto the handle, get rid of it and go for one of these newer units. It is so much better and I have no problem recommending their product now.

I went from one of these:

My toothbrush snapped in two while I was brushing my teeth. I was angry at the time. I now wear a retainer at night because I grind my teeth. It's a $475 hockey mouth guard.

Its a little more sophisicated than a hockey mouthguard. :) Your comment is like saying the NSX is a $50,000 Civic.

You got an awesome deal! I think I paid $160 at my dentists office for the same brush about a year ago and I'd pay it again if I didn't already use one. I don't go on any overnight trip w/o it.
