1. Is it possible to still purchase an OEM HONDA 3.2 litre motor from Honda?
2. How much? Has anyone ever have to do this?
3. Has anyone ever tried to put the 3.2 L motor into a 1991-1997 NSX
4. Any special mods that are required?

Just wondering...still thinking of some more dumb and crazy questions

Yes people have bought new motors from Honda.

Depends if you want to up date the ECU and go to Throttle by Wire

It has to be, since the car is still being sold that way.

I recall hearing figures for new motors of around $23K list, which of course are usually discounted by ~20 percent. Which is why folks usually do this with a used engine, rather than a new one.

Honda did it for all the manual transmission motors for the '97. :D

Yes, it's been done for the '91-96. There have been posts here describing all the things that need to be modified as part of a proper installation. Links to three such topics are shown in this topic.

Hope this query isn't the result of any engine problems, Ajay...

1. So does Honda have these motors just laying around in some warehouse or do you have to order it and what for them to build it?

2. Can one order the original 3.0 litre motor as well from Acura?

3. How do you order one...just go to the Acura parts dept and say I want an NSX motor?

NO ENGINE PROBLEMS...just wondering in my crazy sleep deprived state...

They have motors in their parts warehouse. It might be a parts warehouse in Japan for all I know, and it might take a few days to a few weeks to arrive, but I'm quite certain they keep them somewhere, and do not go build an individual engine every time someone orders one.

Yes.

Yes.

The reason I know how much they cost is that some years ago, my local dealer replaced one. The owner never changed the oil  and after a while, had to replace the engine (and didn't care - obviously a case of too much money and too few brains :D ), so the dealer replaced it...

There must be a way for an OEM manufacturer to calculate how many extra motors and trannies to build for the public...if we could find out how many extra motors are out there and where...hhhmmmmm...

Just wondering!

I'm sure car manufacturers use past experience with rates of parts usage to help them predict how many parts to make. For example, I'm sure they wind up making a whole lot more sets of brake pads than engines.

As far as how many are out there, most people who find that they need a new motor don't care - they just want one! :D
