hey guys, we are looking to take the cats off our nsx and put on straight pipes.
i was wondering where you guys with your custom systems got them installed, and if you knew a good pipe to use.

thanks,
Dion

I had my custom exhaust done at K&J in livonia. They took their time and did a pretty decent job. I would imagine just using some bolt on test pipes from SOS or Dali would be a very simple task for them.

Thank you very much b-man.

Did you take it to Prom? Damn, I got to take my moms 1996 Ford Explorer. (it was almost new at the time....and a limted) Ok, so not quite the same.

nothing wrong with rolling in the Explorer. but yes, i did manage to coax my dad enough to let me take it, now i am his slave. i have a couple more pics but they are nothing like wedding pics

Aside from the moral question of needlessly increasing pollution levels and contributing to the destruction of our environment, there is a legal question to consider. Most exhaust shops will not remove catalysts because they are required to meet emissions standards. There are serious fines for shops that get caught ($10,000 per occurence, I believe).

IMHO, though, the environment issue should be enough to cause you to reconsider! Do what you want though, you are younger and it's your world you will inherit.

 haha, i drive a tundra every day....the enviroment, while it is on my mind, is not the number one thing on my list of concerns at the moment. i doubt 1 very clean and efficient V6 is gonna make that much of a difference at this point.... and from what i have been told, most exhaust shops will remove cats and put straight pipes in its place. especially for an 'exotic' car like the nsx especially if we are gonna be tracking it.
needless to say, its not my every day driver, and its not even my dads daily driver, but he is just starting to fall into his modbug.

but thanks for your concern.

WRONG! Catalytic converters are responsible for over 90% of the reduction in emissions. They also are required with the O2 sensor and EFI system to ensure that the engine starts and runs properly. Expect driveability issues and lower fuel economy from removing them.

Still does not make it legal.

:especially if we are gonna be tracking it.
As a long time SCCA racer and High performance Driving Instructor, I would strongly advise you to invest in a number of driver ed training sessions before modding the car. The most critical element in speed on track is improving the "loose nut behind the wheel". Come on out to one of our Porsche Club events at Waterford Hills or Grattan and I will be happy to demonstrate how wickedly fast an unmodified NSX can be.
