Are there any one running 265s on 17" wheels? do you felt noticeable slower acceleration due to heavier tires (approximately 4lbs per side compare to 245/40/17).

My rear tires are about done, I need new rear tires soon. I am currently running 245/40/17. Should I make the jump to 265s or just stick to 255s?

OEM 17 wheels or aftermarket? The biggest I would go with the 17x8.5 is 255/40/17 because no 245 available for the GoodYear GDS3 locally. No difference from what I can tell compared to the 245's.

Jin,
I am running 17x9 aftermarket wheels. My concern is the added weight, the 255s only add extra 1lb per tire compare to 245s, but when you go from 245s to 265s it is 4 additional lbs on each side. Not sure if the extra .5" width is worth it.

Maybe nsxtasy can chime in. I had run 255 and 265 on my aftermarket wheels before. Didn't notice any difference.

i'm running 18x10 with 275's.. i can't really notice the accelleration..

You probably won't notice any difference due to the weight of the tires. However, you may notice a difference due to the larger diameter of the tires; it's like putting a taller R&P (final drive) gear on your car.

265 treadwidth tires are also pretty wide to be putting on a 17x9 wheel. Most 265/40-17 are approved for rim widths of 9.0-10.5 inches, which means you can mount it, but it may appear "bulging" since it's at the low end of the approved range.

There are also a lot more tires available in 255/40-17, and they're less expensive.

For all these reasons, I recommend sticking with 255/40-17 (which is approved for 8.5-10.0).

Thanks a lot, I will stick to 255/40/17s. Any maximum grip street tires that you would recomend occassional visits to dragstrips?

Maximum grip street tires tend to fall into two categories:

a. Tires that are designed for the maximum dry traction possible, with little concern for wet traction or treadlife. They tend to wear quickly and aren't as good as many others in the rain, but man, do they stick!

b. Tires that are designed for excellent dry traction (but not quite as good as the previous category) as well as excellent wet traction and pretty good treadlife.

It sounds like you are looking for the first category. If so, I highly recommend the Falken Azenis RT-615. On dry pavement, it's as sticky as any street tire you can buy. (Assuming, of course, you don't want to get a separate set of wheels with drag radials for the strip.) Dealers include Vulcan Tire (warehouses in UT and PA), Edge Racing (FL), and Discount Tire (nationwide).
