The Latest R&T (march 05) has a comparison of all the latest sports cars and, of course, the NSX was left out, but at least they gave a reason.

"The NSX was left out because it's likely to be discontinued next year or be replaced by another model"

So, we are all pretty sure there is no new model, so that only leaves one conclusion. :frown:

Maybe that's what you believe. I think there is a new model but they haven't decided whether to put it into production.

I hope you are right Ken.

I still say there are going to be 2 new cars in the Acura line to replace the current NSX. One wil be something like the HSX and cost somewhere around $65k (Vette killer) and one that will be a true exotic with high HP and sell for $110k-$120k (Ferarri killer).

I too hope there is a replacement. Honda says dreams have power right? Even though the Apr 05 Motor Trend issue describes Takeo Fukui, Honda Motors Ltd. CEO as the man who "axed the next-generation NSX". :frown:
Wonder if its because according to the article his daily driver is a CR-V

I doubt that your hopes will come true. How can Honda develop and build a Ferrari killer (and the weakest actual model is the F430) for $120k (that's already the price we have to pay in Germany for the NSX - about 90,000 Euros)? You have to calculate at least double the price and Honda will still not gain money. And where would be the market for a $200k+ Honda?

And also the development costs for a Honda Vette killer for 65k sticker price would be too high to get any gain margin. You know that Honda would not build a car with an oldtimer engine that the Corvette has - they would use high tech and that's expensive.

The only thing I could imagine is a S 2000 coupe or maybe a limited edition NSX if BAR Honda would win the F1 championship this year.

our factory reps say they have a new NSX in the pipeline- marketed as a $65k car but they really dont know too much in regards to future products. Although they did tip me off to the next civic si all the way back in early 2001.... only time will tell.

i have a hard time believing that if there is something new and definitive and not design vaporware, that EVERYONE at honda that knows about it hasn't said a peep. There's always that ONE guy who wants recognition or something who will spill the beans. I doubt there is anything certain, probably lots of prototypes and ideas, but if there is anything coming it probably wont be for several years. That's my opinion anyway.

Mark B and I read the same tea leaves

The HSC doesn't exist. I'm referring to an actual car we'll be able to buy, not prototypes. Once they have something they're actually going to launch, you'll have a much larger group of people and external companies involved vs. the small group for a prototype.

Honda *does* have the tightest lips.

Example.

96 prelude (gen4) was thought to be DEAD. No replacement. One day in september...BOOM new gen5 '97 lude.

Granted the lude and integra did eventually get replaced by the RSX. (they did announce that in advance...just not the RSX)

Hmmm...a new NSX?

That would have to be one hell of a car because at ~$65k the new Z06 is a Ferrari Killer.

427 ... 500hp (yes this has more torque and hp than a F430!)
Aluminum Chassis
Solid Roof Coop
Carbon Fenders
3100lbs

If they do make a new NSX, it won't be as fast as a new Z06 (and I doubt even the '04 Z06's), it won't be as fast as a Ferrari 430.

The only thing Honda could possibly do to make a new NSX as cool and forward looking as the current NSX was at introduction is to actually produce the car with a carbon fiber monocoque like the Enzo and the Carrera GT. Then they'd need at least 400hp/325ft.lbs. and the price to match a 911. The NSX, despite it's "Ferrari Killer" misnomer is more a 911 competitor than anything else. In the early 90's, Porsche lost a ton of customers to the NSX. If Honda wants to be competitive, they've got to offer something at 911 prices that makes the 911 look "old" - - - again.

Does your factory rep know when the current NSX will be axed?
