Anyone know any good shop that knows how to install RaceLogic TC on a NSX?

http://www.racelogic.co.uk/traction.htm

this unit has proven to do wonder for Supra tt, and one of the best mod over all.. shave about .75 sec on 1/4 miles, and faster corner speed... in addition to safer to drive.. etc

i would like to try it on my nsx too..

any idea?

Jason,

The NSX already has a built in TCS system, why go with an aftermarket one that is not custom tailored for the NSX?

The limited slip on the NSX is pretty good and helps with your cornering speeds as well cornering under acceleration.

The only modifications that I have heard of people doing is swapping the Type-R limited slip on the regular NSXs, but I've never heard of anyone swapping Traction Control Systems with an aftermarket one.

Just my 2 cents.

Hi Ken,

i honestly dont know much about NSX traction control

This RaceLogic TC would give you (with a supra tt)

- almost NO slip nor wheel hop) at launch
- almost NO slip in rain
- You can floor it at the apex
- you can floor it in the parking lot in rain without spin off... or out of control
- no power loss when TC kick in!

i dont know if NSX TC is much better.. but RL TC is much more advanced than Supra TC

Hi Jason,

From what I understand the modified Supras are able to generate a lot more HP than what they can put to use effectively so the TC that you mention probably helps.

I've seen many Supras at the track that can't really put down the power in a controlled manner because of the way that Turbo Boost comes up on their cars. A week and a half ago at the Speedventures event there were a couple of really souped up Supras with lot's of goodies on them, sadly neither one of them was able to drive fast in the rain because of how sudden turbo boost came up on those cars.

The NSX on the other hand is fairly linear in regards to power delivery, you should be able to control how much and how fast the power is applied to the rear wheels.

I don't think that an aftermarket TCS system on the NSX would make that much of a difference for straight line launches given that a stock NSX is barely able to overpower the stock tires and cause too much spin in launches.

The stock TCS will save you most of the time when a condition that has excessive wheelspin or loss of traction is present, so you should be covered for most normal situations.

At the track all the fast NSX drivers always turn their TCS off, since it can be unpredictable and rob power at the wrong time, so given this would you trust an aftermarket TCS system to do the right thing in those moments?

Something to think about....

Hi Ken & Kenji,

yeah, I understand that RLTC will benefit a lot more on Supra than on NSX.

to launch a "heavy supra with lots of power" properly is almost mission impossible.. let alone launching it properly and consistently.

yes, big turbo kick will make supra hard to drive in dry.. and guaranteed spin out in rain

now, adding a RLTC will enhance your driving.. maybe you can call it handicap.. but for a mediocre driver like me, this will help a lot.. in nsx or supra.

maybe you want to take a look RLTC website, it seems like RLTC benefit NA cars a lot too...

i might sell my supra tt.. so i want to keep it in my NSX.. and see how it will work on it.

AFAIK, we don't do any "launching" at the track since we don't do any real races especially not standing start races. NSX's NA engine allows nice throttle modulation for car control during over/under steering situation. You can throttle steer the NSX pretty easily if you get the knack for it.

i am not sure if you have a chance to look at their website and user's feedback.

launching without wheel spin is just one of the benefit.. RLTC actually gives you a lot more than that..

i am not sure if you are aware. even F1 racers are using this advanced TC.. and this is banned by CART..

Jason,

The F1 TC systems probabaly costs Millions of dollars to develop, an off the shelf TC system won't be optimized for any given car.

Remember that the NSX is mid engined, as such the dynamics of the car would be a bit different to a Front Engine Rear wheel drive car, unless they have a custom kit for the NSX, that has been specically tuned for the NSX I doubt that a generic kit will address the handling correctly.

Again, if you are willing to experiment with the kit, then that's your prerogative. I'm not putting the kit down, I just think that the stock TCS on the NSX is adequate for most emergency situations.

Ken

BTW: According to the description, the kit works by cutting fuel/ignition when it detects wheel slippage, that's a very bad thing to do on a mid engine car in mid turn, more than likely it can actually cause a spin if it is too aggressive.

Cutt off fuel/ingition.. they do so in fraction of sec. you will actually feel like your car is DANCING, not fuel cut..

as for supra, the stock TC does so the same way .. but, they cut the fuel/ingition so severely, that you actually feel your car is out of FUEL.. and slow down so much that everyone else passes you on track.

if you like, you can go to www.supraforums.com and search for RLTC feed back.. it is pretty amazing from how they describe RLTC..

I dont know if RLTC is designed for MR or not.. i dont mind to have it on my NSX.. but i dont know anyone who can install it.. I can email them to see if there is anyone tried on MR cars..

on supra, they have RLTC installation instruction .. so it is easier to install.. but NSX. since i dont know if there is anyone tried it..

Hi Jason,

Just post the question in the Technical section instead, there might be someone who has actually tried to install a similar system on the NSX.

Before going through the trouble of installing the kit on the NSX, you might want to actually drive the NSX at the track and determine yourself if such a kit is even needed on the car. You would be amazed how a properly setup NSX handles at the track.

So are you still commuting from WA to the Bay Area? There is another Speedventures event at Sears Point on April, perhaps you can make it up there that weekend with either your Supra or NSX :)

I'm heading down south this weekend to hang out with the Southern CA NSX folks :D, hehe..
