I took my car in for an oil change this morning and mentioned that there have been a couple times lately when the engine has died immediately after starting up (but would then restart w/o problems). I just got a call from them and they're telling me its something in the ignition switch and will necessitate a repair.
Now, I'm not bitching. My car is 13 years old and has 106,000 miles, half of which I've put on myself in the last 3+ years. In those 50,000+ miles I have had the following repairs.
- One 02 sensor @ ~$250.
- Targa roof latch handle on driver side @ ~$50.
- Ignition switch (the current problem) @ ~ $200.
And that's it, the sum total of what I would classify as repairs. Note that I am not counting the gas struts for the trunk/hatch or the timing belt or brakes or the 5 sets of tires I've used up.
The reason I'm posting this is it's striking that a car this old with this many miles that I drive so hard has proven to be so dependable. Since I frequently see questions posed by new members over in the newbie/compro section asking about NSX reliability, I wanted to detail my actual repair costs here.
Anyone else that would like to detail their repair costs over time, feel free to add them to this thread.
