rear bumper dust due to exhaust change

Hi all,
I recently purchased a ARK-DTS exhaust for my stock NSX. After installing the exhaust, I noticed my rear bumper will be filled with dirt. I mean A LOT of dirt. In the day time under the sun, it makes my bumper look like its pearl black... Is this normal? Also, it is crazy loud (very deep though) at 2k-4k range and I don't even have headers and test pipe yet. upper rpm seems very good to me. Then deep tone inside the cabin is driving me nuts. Wife said she cant talk to me inside the car anymore =) anyways, let me know if these are normal... Anyone want to trade exhaust?

Well, I can't tell you that it's normal, but it happens to my car too. Yup, it's loud. I have test pipes and it's pretty ridiculous. If I'm in a garage, holy smokes, you better cover your ears! Right now i don't have the headliner in my car and the car is a bit of a torture chamber because of the rattling and reverberation through the roof. I gotta finish that headliner so I can put it back in!!!

Really? From what I've read, i thought the ARK DTS/X exhausts were pretty moderate in volume level throughout the RPM band... that's interesting...
As for excessive soot on your bumper, its possible you car can be running too rich of an a/f ratio. May want to check that out...

I remember reading where some Prime members had luck adding headers and said it can actually help reduce cabin droning. Can't remember if it was the ARK-DTS or not......maybe it was the GTLW exhaust. I'm getting ready to install headers and a GTLW next week. If I like it (OK...if my wife likes it), I'll have a like new Comptech exhaust for sale. If not......I'll have a like new GTLW for sale:redface:

As for the dirt on the rear bumper.....I've always noticed the NSX gets really dusty back there. Didn't notice that it was any worst after I installed the Comptech exhaust. Can't imagine trying to keep a black NSX clean:eek:

I never had the bumper dust problem (well, very mild) before the exhaust. This DTS is very loud. I cant even imagine puttnig on headers or test pipes. My wife can hear me coming home couple blocks away. I used to enjoy the engine sound from my NSX when it was stock, now I can't hear anything from my engine and only exhaust notes. I sure miss the engine sound very much. Considering to put back to stock exhaust =( Anyone in Los Angeles that have the DTS to compare?

I have heard that the DTS is loud and the DTX is one of the quieter exhausts. I went with Comptech because i thought it was the quietest readily available exhaust for the NSX but i also installed headers and test pipes at the same time and that set up is louder than i care for.
When i am driving and have the windows up i can barely hear the person i am talking to on the phone, i keep having to tell them to speak louder or i'll have to call them back. I have read that the RSR or HKS is the closest to stock sound but i never see those come up for sale and haven't been able to find any clips of them around.

I think i read somewhere here on prime about a similar problem with bumper dust and i think it was concluded that it was the exhausts internal material blowing out and stopped after about 5,000 miles or so. I would do a search, you can probably find that post and answer your "dust" question.

This is correct. With time, it goes away. It's not actually dust, it's like tiny fiberglass particles.

I will take your DTS off your hands

I have the DTS with comptech headers and no cat and it is loud but i can
talk inside the car no problem. It is a lot quieter than TUBI or other systems I heard.
as far as the "dust" - I too had a lot of fiberglass strands blow out the first 100 miles or so; now it is a lot less but still there enough to see when I wash the car.
I love the exhaust and all who have heard it are definitly impressed.

I have the ARK DTS and I find it just right. My wife thinks it sounds great and with the top on and windows closed it sounds almost stock when crusing. It can drone in 6th doing 50-60 just drop to 5th. As for the dust, I had it in the beginning and it went away after the exhaust was run in for awhile. The bumber collects dust no matter what, I just think that the airflow pulls it up there......Steve

The bumper dust does occur with the GTLW when they are brand new (at least for me), so I imagine other exhaust are the same. It looks almost like crazy pixie dust coming out of the exhaust pipe. Freaked me out the first time I saw it. I notice with my tubi it doesn't get the metallic dust, but I do get a lot of soot and regular dust accumulation on the rear bumper too.
