How do they physically do the tint on the rear hatch? How do they reach far enough?

Do they sit on your engine or something, or is it just a 2 man job, or do they have a special tool to reach far enough?

I'm thinking about getting a tint thursday, and I just don't want to freak out if I see him sitting on my engine if that's the way everyone does it.

Mine was done years ago and I doubt that he sat on the vehicle in any way to get the job done, but I honestly couldn't say for certain as I wasn't there at the time.

I took mine off and carried it in. It is a very difficult job. I found the best guy in town, and he called the guy who taught him and asked him for help, so they did it together. Looks fantastic.

They just lean over the car using a small step stool and apply it to the glass. It's no big deal and there's no need to worry about it if you are bringing it to an experienced tint place.

FWIW, see if your tint man can do it with one piece of tint rather than multiple pieces so you won't have lines in it.

^ It doesn't make a difference since they cut out lines for the rear defogger. If they cut a second tint piece, then that will be placed under a defogger line @ the same distance.

HUH? what lines for what rear defogger? The defogger is INSIDE the glass, are you thinking of the old school type where the lines were ON the glass? Like in 1985?

I just had mine tinted. The guy had a machine cut the tint perfectly. He takes the piece off, strips the waste off the cut. Then puts soap on the outer side of the hatch. Then puts the tint on there and test fits and makes some adjustments. Then he wets the inside, and places it in there just leaning on the car (he put cloth down). Then he heated the film as he brushed it and it took a perfect shape to the hatch. He removes all the bubbles, squeegee'd it all and cleaned up.

There are no lines, no cuts. It is a single piece and it looks PERFECT. You can't even tell it is tint. Now my engine is covered in the sunlight, and the whole hatch/car looks better because you get more of an F16 canopy look with the tint for sure. That was the surprise to me. Cost me $190 for the two sides and rear. He didn't need help and he didn't sit on the motor.

Don't go some place where they have to make cuts/lines. That is amateur.
