Reasonable repaint cost

Stopped into Stoddard Porsche/Audi yesterday to ask if they do bodywork/paintwork on A8 (aluminum car). Body shop associate said yes (manager Don ??? was out to lunch). Asked because the previous owner had done somewhat of a shoddy repaint on my hood. Anyway he quoted me ~$400 for the hood. I was shocked at how cheap this service was, and had to ask how much for the whole car. To which he replies ~$4000.

I did not ask if the dealer was specially trained to do repair work on the NSX, doubt it. But figured familiarity with painting an A8 is respectable. Also, my father years ago had a 944 Turbo repainted (after keyed) at this dealer quite a few years ago. Results on it were fantastic for years to come, basically could not tell it was a repaint on any panel.

$4k sounds reasonable. I am not an expert but I have seen quotes from people on this board from 5-10k. The expense for a repaint is in how the shop preps the car. I believe one of the main differences between a good job and a shoddy job is whether or not the shop takes all of the body panels off first.
If so, that will cost more. Also, how many stages is does the body shop use in their paint process. That is another factor.

$400 for the hood sounds about right. I think an average to paint the roof is $1000 btw.

is there any difference in respraying an aluminium body car to a normal one? i am thinking of having my whole car resprayed while at the same time having the wings west kit fitted.it is a proffesional body shop and he told me would do it for £1000 cash in hand,and that he would remove the bumpers,door mirrors,headlight washers,windscreen washers,door locks etc etc.
if there is any difference between spraying the two metals he didnt mention it.

Yea i got a quote too from a local body shop about how much it costs to repaint my car, and they quoted me about 3500 or so to do it. But i'm getting these parts repainted on my car for $1700: The hood, bumper, WW front Lip, Rear bumper and Spats.
