RIP Joe. :frown:

Great athlete and a “stand-up guy”. I still think he got the shaft in the 2nd Garden fight… Ali is good, but he had the power of marketing and influential people behind him.. Frazier not so much.. .
Ali never apologized for the rude comments and it’s too bad Ali never “manned up” and mended fences. When Ali was not allowed to fight, Joe used to give him money. He tried everything he could to help Ali get his license back. He even talked to President Nixon about it. Ali paid him back by calling him Gorilla, Uncle Tom and other horrible things.

just my 2 cents..

Ali and frazier became very close friends and had a lot of respect for each other. They put that stuff behind them. They appeared together many times and you could tell their friendship had grown. They simply had differing political views back then.

Anyway, sad loss. I liked Frazier a lot.

In an interview with his son about 2 years ago, that didn't seem to be the case...I hope they did. Although, from his son, Ali never personally apologized only indirectly doing so. But again, I'm sure his son was more defensive than Joe himself.

Life's too short not to mend fences. Growing up in the 60's, it was great to see 2 giants, athelets shape American culture, each with their own points of view and values.

The 3 fights between Ali and Frazier are the gold standard all other great fights can use for measurement. It is a sad day for boxing enthusiasts
and for the Frazier family.
