RIP "Tail of the Dragon."

It'll go away, eventually. It's not worth anyone's time to drop that much manpower there. Worst thing people could do is escalate the issue though.... if it becomes an "us vs. LEOs" vendetta, that road won't be fun for years.

I've driven plenty on the blue ridge, and don't get it, particularly for a car like the NSX. You can go fast enough around those corners to really nix your day if you lose it. Or air over a cliff. Or get smacked by an oncoming motorcycle. Why not just go to a track? If I lived 30 mins away, that would be one thing. But to drive 10 hours????

makes me want to go there and see what happens.

i'd give em hell if they pulled me over for no reason (if i knew, of course, i wasn't doing anything wrong at all)

should sneak up in the woods and pop all their tires

I'm with Ski, A track day is cheaper and safer anyway

Done a lot of riding when I was a little younger...........stupid crap too and lots of guys lost it. I'm one of the lucky few to have only been down ONCE

I am so happy I grew up when I did. Things were different then. Too many creeps out there now preventing a good time.

Why not just go to a track?

I totally agree...however, there is no track in the world with 318 turns in 11 miles. There are some roads in this big beautiful world that are worth driving "enthusiastically" and worth making the trip for. ;)

Maybe the great State of Tennessee could use the Nurburgring as a model...

I do go to the track and I also enjoy exploring the great roads of our country on my vacations. I never considered the Dragon to be like a race track. It's not, and it should be driven carefully and with respect.

Also, if you lived in S. Florida you'd understand why a ten hour drive to the Dragon is well worth it.

I like this one
"Trooper then harassed driver for DRIVING WITH ONE HAND ON STEERING WHEEL. Driver asked how he was supposed to shift gears. Trooper then rudely said, "GET LOST".

The fact that the police even did something like that is what makes people hate them, and have extreme contempt for all types of government authority figures. When people snap and start shooting people, it is things like this type of totally blatant harassment that are contributing factor for that mental break.

it is pretty ridiculous.
another one of those dumb things that takes a little bit more faith out of the legal system....

Well guys, I moved here and only live 20 miles away from it, and my NSX and MV Agusta, CBR600RR, FJR1300, and DR650 all have been sitting in the garage going nowhere fast with all the law enforcement around lately. Paying for a track is too expensive when you can be at the Dragon in 15 minutes, and what's also true is how many other roads around here are worth driving.

....and yes, you all know I used to live in florida! I love it up here!

agreed.

We will see what the fate of the dragon is, but I am guessing this is a problem that will go away, and then resurface periodically.
I have seen this kind of thing before in the form of "Operation Hammer" which was a brute force "crack down" on driving infractions in the city of Erie Pa. The state and local LEOs worked together all over the city. Police wrote a ton of tickets for everything from yellow light violations, to petty speeding (less than 5mph over limit) along with more serious violations (DUI, Wreckless Operation). the idea was to put fear back into drivers (it worked). A year later they did it again on a smaller scale. This continues to this day, although I understand to a much smaller degree.

It takes a lot of resource to maintain such a program, not only in LEO patrol costs, but also in administration costs. When a lot of petty tickets are written they can clog up the processing system.

I am sure they are hoping word will spread that the local constabulary are ball busters, and that the Dragon is no longer "safe" for enthusiastic driving. Once traffic from group drives / rides subsides the LEO presence will shrink.
