anybody have any suggestions on removing the rust from these damn expensive project kic's lugs? I didn't realize that rust was a feature of project kic's lugs :mad:

Thanks,

Wire brush and spray paint?
Maybe just get a new set of closed end ones? Seems like water got in there after a car wash and just sat there a while...

I guess that just goes to show you don't always get what you pay for..

CLR or naval jelly?

Odd place for rust considering the splines are ok looking (where I have always seen rusting first on other cheap nuts) and the fact that the rim turning should have thrown out most of the water one would think... Maybe make sure to blow dry the wheels after washes??

There was a buyer beware a few months ago about replica kics lugs you might want to double check u didn't get hustled

I was not aware that there was a buyer beware thread for imitation Project Kics a few months ago. I purchased mine when I had a set of Work Meisters S1's installed on my NSX in October 2007 from a reputable place.

I will have to check with them anyways, because its my understanding that they get the Project Kics directly from Mackin.

Thanks,

Mike

I guess no one else has experienced the same issue that I'm going through now???

Use spray nine and a toothbrush, remember to put the persons' toothbrush back after you are done.

Never seez on the studs too.

i noticed this before on my own personal car and a few customers cars before. i believe because of the exposed lug nuts caused the stud itself to rust and leave the rusty residue inside the lug. grease or antiseize the studs tend to help it :)

I believe this is been caused by those ugly wheels which are literally making your lug nuts weep in misery. Remove those wheels and sell them cheap now! I may be able to assist in taking those off your hands. For a fee of course.

I agree with your reply, I added extended studs from H&R that came with their 15mm spacers and as you stated since they are open lugs, the water sat in the lug and cause the stud to rust, which is why there is rust on the inside part of the lug. I will clean the lugs and studs and spray some anti-seize on the studs. Hopefully, that will help with the rust issue.

If the steps I take in my reply above doesn't work, I'll consider your offer.

I purchased genuine set for my gtr and nsx and not a sight of rust.

Good chance they are replicas

Trust me the lugs are not replica's, I purchased these lugs shortly after they first were released from a reliable shop, who got them from Mackin who is a well known distributor here in California.
