Seibon Type R Hood Install

I just had one of the best body shops in Orlando paint and install this hood. They did a great job on the paint but it has a huge gap between the hood and quarter panel on the drivers side. They told me no matter how much you adjust it using the factory bolt setting it just isn't coming out right. You can almost stick your finger in there. Almost seems like the hood is too small. Anyone else have this problem? I want it perfect.

Also, this is hard to describe and I will get a pic up here but, where the sides of the vent in the center of the hood gradually slope back towards the washer fluid tip holes, one side slopes all the way to within one inch of the end of the hood and one side stops about three inches short. Is this just a defective hood or is this normal?

I HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATE Seibon. I've had 3 Seibon hoods when i had my Z and none fit even close. I don't like busting someones bubble but I have to be honest. Sorry.

Today...The body shop said they could tuck the light and the quarter panel in a few millimeters and it might look good. Any one ever move body parts to compensate for a perfect hood look? Should I even be considering this?

Honestly, it's a hand-built car. Panel fit and alignment from one car to another is different. Yours may have to have a little "massaging" done to get the new aftermarket hood to fit just right.

I have a Seibon Type-R hood as well and have the same gap problems. We already tried adjusting the headlamps and fender to lessen the gap but nonetheless, its still there!

I'll just have to save up till I can afford a DF-R hood.

Honestly if you can find a VIS you'll be happier. I've noticed my VIS is much stronger than any of my flimsey Seibons and fitment is better.

VIS, 02 spec hood? They made one?

Made the decision this morning to send it in for some body surgury. Nip and tuck. When I get it back I will fill you all in. I will post the pics when all the mods I want are completed which should be another month or so. $6000 in stereo equip, $3000 in wheels, lowered, black out clear coat on taillights and signals, powdercoating calipers, built in passport radar, type R hood, etc. Mostly cosmetic stuff. Next year will be speed modifications. It's a silver 04 with only 3000 miles.

So what is the consensus pick for best fitting 02+ vented hood then, Down Force?

Just a heads up, DF seems to have the least complaints but I have the CF DF TypeR hood and it doesn't fit right either. Its lifted on the passenger side. Do a search and there's others with the same issue. For the cost you'd think it would fit better.

There's pics of ones on the Fourm that fit perfect but mine definitely doesn't.

I just got the car back and it looks one step away from perfect. I have to say I like the look, it's not that sturdy, and it opens kinda funny, but looks close to what I expected. I wish Seibon mentioned some "massaging" is necessary. It would have made me feel better about the extra cost of installation.

Just got the VIS Type-R hood from Dali. Less than $700 including shipping from California to South Florida. Had it shipped right to Sunshine Collision in Boca Raton. Left them my headlight covers to color match and voila! It was ready in 3 days.

Fit is pretty damn good. We test fitted the hood before painting and had to use a Dremel to widen the mounting holes on the car's hinges to perfectly center the hood. Much easier than removing the windshield trim to access the factory hinge adjustment bolts.

Also got Dali's radiator duct but haven't installed it yet. Waiting for the Downforce undertrays to arrive first.

The crappy photo below was shot with a Blackberry.

Here is a pic of mine. Let's start a hood pic thread. I can't believe someone didn't start this earlier:

Hugh, any fitment probs with the VIS? I have one too and I found the passenger corner to sit slightly higher than normal. I am not crazy about driving at speed (any speed) with a hood that isn't properly seated. Don't ask me why, it's embarrassing.

I bought these hood pins to keep the damn thing down, but they're big and ugly and I'm not sure I want to cut them into the hood.

Myaddiction, what did you do to fix yours?

This picture is why i want a cf vented hood, so that i can expose just the center of it like you did. That looks great.

Like someone else mentioned i wouldn't tolerate a ill fitting hood either. I already don't like the idea of trading a perfect fitting oem aluminum part for an aftermarket cf one but no one makes an aluminum version and i do like the cf exposed look in the center behind the vent.

Has anyone tried procar's 02+ vented cf hood yet?

I'm trying to figure out which one to buy. I definitely want the best quality hood (short of spending the money for a real nsx-r hood that is).

How does the cf look on the Seibon hood? I thought i had read somewhere that people were having trouble with the clear coat on their Seibon cf nsx-r style wings. Did you have them coat over the cf exposed part of the hood or was it masked off and left alone?

I do need to "fine tune" the front of the hood. It appears to be flush with the front bumper in the middle but appears slightly high next to the headlight covers. There are adjustable rubber stops near the top of the radiator on each side by the headlights that I can play with, along with playing with the headlight covers themselves. I'll report back after I get a chance to pay with it. Worse case scenario I'll just go to the mall with a few pounds of chocolate and get a fat chick to sit on the corner of the hood for an hour or too while I dribble out the Hershey's.

The cf looks perfect. It was masked off and left alone. The polishing they did left a smooth transition from paint to cf. The only thing I don't understand about this hood is look at the pic again: This is hard to explain....Can you see on the driver's side non painted carbon fiber area.....it stops sloping about three inches short towards the windshield and on the passenger side it slopes back one inch from the end of the hood toward the windshield. Imagine the cf area as a " U " that only goes 4/5 of the way around. Is that normal for a type R hood? The paint creates an illusion both sides slope back perfectly. Also the Seibon metal grate looks good on the outside but is held in by bending clips on the inside. Others like Procar and DF bolt in (unless I am mistaken) creating a nice look when the hood is open.
