• ***AVOID MARKETPLACE SCAMS!!***

Scammers are using compromised Prime member accounts to pose as a trusted seller in the marketplace. They also also creating usernames similar to veteran Prime names to trick you (e.g. DrManny3 vs DrManny1). Before you enter into a deal with ANY seller, follow these tips to keep yourself safe. If you encounter one of these scammers, please report them immediately and we will lock their account.

    Caveat Emptor!

seller negative experience - Scam impersonating sophis???

Sorry, this happened to you. Zelle and F&F should never be used unless you actually know the person. They are the worst two options as they provide no protections.

That's interesting information @centerpunch . I think most of us hadn't really been worrying about scams for smaller amounts less than a few hundred, figuring it wouldn't be worth it for the scammers for $50. I regret thinking that when someone asked for additional verification for a $50 item. Either the scamming c***s are getting more desperate, or they've got some AI involved to automate the process? All the more caveat emptor, and underlines the importance of not posting personal information to public threads because that can be an easy scrape for scammers. Use Prime's DM feature (checking username, join date, and icon carefully.)

I wish we could do something to make the large blue banner warning about these scams more prominent. It's bright blue on the top of all the threads. Thermal Orange over Onyx perhaps?
Let me see if I can do that. Might take a few days.

Probably regular Paypal but don't agree to send "Friends and Family". PayPal's Buyer Protection does not cover personal transactions (Friends and Family).

it is still a bit unclear if "sophis" contacted you via DM in Prime?
He PM me his number thru the forum which i can not see the message anymore.
My guess is that it was the scammer who created account “sophi” and since we banned him the DM is gone. User @sophis has NOT been banned so a message from him you’d still be able to see on your end unless you deleted it.

I’m sorry that you were scammed by someone impersonating another member of the forum using a close proximity username. We have done the best we can with warnings about this situation as well as warning against using payment methods with no buyer protections

This same situation ALMOST happened to me, whoever it is is very good at deceiving people. I have a feeling its the same person over and over using different user names and emails. They reached out to me multiple times through my wtb

Thanks for the heads up. I'll lock down the WTB as well.
