Several Questions from "Newbie"

I've been obsessed with the NSX for a long period of time, probably five years now. When my obsession first started, I read and reread the entire FAQ on here probably half a dozen times at least. I haven't followed up too much in the past two years because I purchased a BMW M3. I am selling my car in the next week however and will probably be purchasing a NSX in the next 8 months. I have a few questions.

First: Can a "clean" 95 targa w/ ~50-60k miles be found for ~$40k? I would be willing to accept an accident as long as it wasn't major.

Second: I have only driven the coupe, will I notice a major difference in the targa? Anyone have problems with leaks?

Third: I am coming from a highly modified M3 (still normally aspirated) and was wondering how someone could guestimate this would compare to a stock NSX. I know M3 owners have their opinion as well as NSX owners but any unbiased opinions would be welcome. I can estimate that the car had 260-270 hp, weighed ~3100 lbs. From what I have heard, NSX/M3 are close to even in low acceleration but at freeway speeds NSX would take it.

I guess that is all for now. I am planning on doing the Basch supercharger for it as well. Despite the fact that I have not owned a NSX, I wouldn't question the fact that I have more knowledge than 95% of NSX owners (many of those on this forum excluded).

Thanks,
Brent Parks
Going to miss the M3 but looking forward to my "dream car"

I've seen it happen... its rare, but I've seen NSX-Ts go for that, particularly non-manual shift ones with minor "stories"

Yes. The roof on the NSX-T comes off

. The car is less rigid when the roof is off.

A few months ago I looked at a 95 Black\Tan w/ 28K miles for $44k. The seats looked a little worn for 28K and the Hood had been removed or replaced. It also had a slight smell. maybe a smoker. It was on the lot for 4 months and they were trying to make a deal.

The NSX-T (any year) is also less rigid than the coupe when the roof is on, according to the reports of those who have owned both. Furthermore, the '95-96 NSX-T is less rigid than the '97+ NSX-T.

Isn't 1995 the year BEFORE they came up with more weight reduction to compensate for the targa- making it the heaviest of all the models? Just wondering.

Unless you are tracking the car, you will like the targa with the top on as much as the coupe. But you will pay a premium for the targa over a '94 coupe, which can be found commonly in the mid to upper $30k range. I bought my '95 red/tan targa for $43k last November, and have not looked back. I thoroughly enjoy the open top (like today - 72 in NC), and still have fun at the track. The top did start squeeking a couple of months ago, but Acura's fix took care of that (for ~$300

), and it definitely has cowl shake with the top off, but the sunburn on top of your head keeps you from noticing it.

I think the biggest thing you will miss with the NSX is the back seat. I love M's, but they are not NSX's. You will also be noticed a lot more in the NSX, which can be good and bad. I think you probably had a little more low end torque in the M3, and you will have to learn to apply the throttle when the tail gets out, not lift

, otherwise they are both tons of fun.

I know that major changes were made in 97, but I remember hearing somewhere that there was some difference between 95 and 96 to reduce some weight. I may be wrong. I am going to ask about it next time I'm at the shop.

Are there specs available for 95 and 96 models? We could see if both curb weights are the same.
