Is it smart/ok to run short gears/shorties with a turbo setup? I saw one member selling his trans because of installing turbo....

No Complaints here, I love it.I believe 2nd to 4th gear is shorter, my final drive in 5th is 4:55 I believe.(Comptech)
So 1st and 5th match stock, correct me if I am wrong.
I know the Japanese gears are final 4:23 .

I find the power band is always close when u press the pedal down with short gears, which makes for the turbo to spool up faster cause the RPM are higher alot faster.
There is a thread a few below this 1 covering alot of this allready in the FI area.
I believe its personal preference and what u are setting up your car for, track, highway, city etc.. Me personally I would rather have the bottom end over the top end, as I do not need to drive the car 180mph+ on the streets.

Some have said over 450 rwhp use stock gears, but I do not totally agree, as I have this setup and feel very comfortable with it, each to his own there.

So for me if it was my choice, if I could get a built short gear trans for a reasonable deal I would not shy away from it.Only disadvantage I would care about is, if/when it breaks it will cost more to re-build the tranny.

+1 for short gears

yes brent, im selling mine, but i also have the 4:23 final drive....when i was 400 HP it was great...now im just shifting all the time....i really want a longer 2nd gear....

Yes........selling NEW 6-speed, OS Giken, and I have an NSX-R main for twin disk clutch.

All New but after "rowing" driving TiDaves car on THill last week I'm going 5-speed and packing the LSD.

With the TALL first, Second I will be in BOOST longer and concentrate on driving line, throttle control, brakes, not shift points

I'm starting to think 450-500HP on the track needs the taller gears "TURBO" but under that the 6-speed is sweet.

Hope this helps
