Alot of you know me. For those of you that dont Let me just say that I am on my second NSX. The first one I owned was pristine, the latest one, well not so much... Im not sure who owned it before me but it seems that looks were far more important than maintnance. So far I have spent close to 3K on the timing belt and water pump and Im not even done. The AC does not work and in phoenix thats just retarded. The RR CV boot needs service, so when im driving it sounds like a spoon in a pan swooshing around. Other than that everything else seems to work out fine. I CAN pay it off in 2 years or I could sell it and get something newer with AC and have little or nothing as far as payments go. The Phoenix group doesent seem to do to much so Im just driving around in my sweat-box and maybe the coolness of owning one is gone. Maybe Ive out grown it or maybe I need the money for my divorce, since Im about to get taken for 1/4 of my retirement. Id Like to hear what you guys would suggest if you were in my shoes

I don't know you at all but i live in Texas and i can say that if you can't afford to immediately get the AC fixed and you don't have a car with working AC then that has to be priority one right now.
My AC was out for one day this summer and i had to change shirts when i got to work and then take a shower immediately after i got home (i rode to lunch with somebody else). I wouldn't have even driven the car in the first place if i had known the AC wasn't going to blow ice cold that day and i'm sure your temps are in the 100's like ours have been.
I see people on here all of the time sweating about selling their NSX like they will never be able to buy another one again. I don't get that. I have owned allot of great cars and some really sweet motorcycles as well but as my life evolves and changes so do my vehicle choices and if i really enjoyed one car over all others then i would just look forward to owning another one again if my current lifestyle couldn't afford one presently.
These cars aren't going anywhere and unless you have spent an ungodly amount of money customizing one then you can probably just sell yours now and buy a comparable one later for less than what you'll get for yours right now.

Maybe since you can't really enjoy the car, it makes you consider selling it. So if you take care of the issues that thought might just go away.

I would fix the A/C, then see if you still enjoy the car. If you still want to sell it then I think it will be easier to sell fully functioning. Not many people in the Southwest want to drive a car with no A/C unless they want a track car.

Also, buying another car is just getting another set of unknowns that you will face later on...something to think about.

P.S. If you lived in CA, you wouldn't be getting rid of it because of sales tax.

I had to fix the a/c in my car too. I had a problem that was way past normal and it is buried here somewhere on prime. It was a crazy amount of money to fix but I had a warranty.

If you can afford to fix the car and will have it paid off soon then keep it. At this point it sounds like the devil you 1/2 know or the devil you don't know at all, if you buy another one in the future.

If you do sell, don't drift away from Prime while you are NSX-less. You're part of this community, now.

maybe I need the money for my divorce, since Im about to get taken for 1/4 of my retirement.

Been there, done that, got the T-shirt. I've debated selling a few of my "prized" accomplishments to make life a bit easier, but the point is, that I may struggle a bit now, but it may be a long time before I'm able to afford to repurchase the things that I would lose or had lost. Think long and hard about that as it applies to your situation.

In my case, the one thing I missed most was my full rack of McIntosh audio gear....but I have a plan in mind ;)

If this car is THE car you'd want, by all means hold on to it if you can. If the car doesn't have a true meaning to you as would a soulmate, then either way it won't matter.

If finances are of concern, sell it while you can take the time to hopefully get what it is worth rather than having to sell it in a panic and have a fire sale. You can always buy another when you get the divorce behind you. Good luck.

You just sold one NSX...then bought this one...and now you want to sell this one?

Sarge...man, you need to just stop and think for a bit....either that or get into the used car business.

Sarge,

You'll lose more if you decide to sell with said problems. If the car simply needs maintenance, you'd be better off getting it fixed at a shop that won't charge you $3k for timing belt/water pump. It's half that at Niguel Motors, in Laguna Niguel, CA. If you think about it, it'd be cheaper for you to bring it here, have a nice vacation, and get your car fixed for much less. Do you know what needs to be fixed to get the AC working?

If you really want a different car, I'm sure you'll be able to find an automatic NSX for a good price.

Sarge,

Fixing the A/C is $1500 max (new evaporator), a C/V joint replacement around $500 (est). If those are the only problems, fix them rather than putting the money into something else. Or buy a beater car with A/C for the time being.

I'm on week 6 w/out A/C down in south Texas and other than a few times, I'm learning to live with 2 x 70 old school air conditioning. I will fix the A/C at some point, just don't have the time to take her out of service for 2 or 3 days.

It sounds like you have a lot going on right now.

My question is, if you sold it now, would it be viable to spend more money to get a better example in short order, or would you wind up waiting until the smoke clears?

If you can get into another one, I would. The car's problems sound like the tip of the iceberg.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I think for now, i'll keep it. I called the dealership that serviced it last before I was the owner, and It did have quite a few things done as far as maintnance goes. New cam and VTEC seals, etc, etc...I was just suprised that the TB and WP were never included in his services. I think the car was tracked, and thats why I think the milage is so high. I will keep reading your responses, but at this point it's staying with me. Who knows if that will change in a month or so. guess we will see, but again thanks everyone

Hey Sarge,

I think the PHX market would have dinged you pretty good ($-wise) if you tried to sell her with her AC out of commish (everyone looks for the angle to get the price down...). I wanted to welcome you to town, but don't monitor prime as well as I should for a lot of the get-together info. I usually catch it the day after something happens. Free time is less than I like too. Also, sorry about the bigD...never fun to go through. I'll PM you my contact info... We'll bound to meet up sooner or later. Glad to hear you're gonna keep her for now...

Til then, Tim.
