Im wondering if my fuel pump is about to go. Lately when I would go to start the car up I hear a growling sound instead of the normal buzz from the fuel pump pressurizing. It doesn't do that all the time....maybe once out of every 10 crankups. The last 2 days, the normal 4000 rpm vtec click you hear behind the driver seat is happening even when Im not vtec'ing. Is this a sign my fuel pump is about to go? I replaced the fuel pump resistor 2 years ago when diagnosing a startup issue.

after further investigation, the clicking noise appears to be something other than the fuel pump.

found the source of the clicking noise.

What was making the noise? I've been working on my seats all week and don't know what up in the backrest would click? I know the noise you're talking about and I can see how something hitting that thin aluminum would make it but - what's hitting it??

I really really try to behave myself most of the time then I come across a post like this and lose all self control. :)

So here goes my reply......

sjones being the nice guy that he is, let DocL drive his car the last time he was in Boca. Doc was in drag that night and lost one of the rhinestones from his cocktail dress. It's obviously been found! :)

Its the thin aluminum backing. Anytime I apply any pressure to it...it makes a clicking sound very similiar to the fuel pump vtec click. Its very annoying.

That's bizarre. So just shifting your weight in the seat makes it "click"? Do you drive with a handgun holstered in the small of your back or something that might apply pressure to a concentrated area of the seat back?

I suppose a fix would be expoxying on a couple of thin support braces or a sturdy sheet of lexan of simialr stiff plastic to the aluminum backing.

nothing abnormal...just the normal weight of leaning back into the seat. I was thinking that as well..... support brace or additional firm padding behind the plate.

I guess it's just "one of those things". I suppose that after 15 years that area simply got fatigued since it continually bears the force of the driver. I'm sure one of the simple fixes we have discussed will fix it.

well today i removed the padding, loosened and re-tightened all of the bolts and re-fastened a couple of snaps that had come loose and put everything back in place and the clicking seems to have stopped.
