I thank all of you for helping me conquer this battle. I read your emails and appreciate the phone calls. So far, So good. The only problem Im having is eating and dieting. Im putting on a couple winter LB's and it seems like im always hungry. The times I miss the most are after a "nice shag", after a meal, while drinking, and when i'm extremly stressed out.

I will admit I have had one cigarette since I quit. Although I would have smoked more if given the chance.

after a "nice shag"

Dude, getting ready to go to sleep...did not need that mental image of your hairy...forget it. I'm all upset now, goin' outside for a smoke.

Don't do it bro, you'll feel so much better in the morning. That smoking shit is played out.

My wife got some bad news yesterday. Her uncle was diagnosed with lung cancer.:frown: He is 62 y/o life time smoker.

That sucks!!..sorry to hear that, Steve.. Hope he can be treated:frown: ...I am on a cruise ship right now and I remember about 20 years ago every lounge on the boat was filled with smoke..now there is only one, I went to a Hypnotist show last night and he had 10 people up on stage that were "under his influence"..when he asked if any were smokers none were..he said 10 years ago 8 out of the 10 would be.

Seems like a good trend to me.

Smoked a pack a day in college, but after I graduated I curbed the habit. Now I just enjoy a couple of cigarettes on the weekend with drinks.

Hopefully it'll stay that way!

And I for one am glad that smoking is banned pretty much everywhere in California. It really is disgusting in every conceivable way. It's a vice, not a virtue... and should be treated as such.

I agree! I think smoking should be made illegal, and I am a smoker. I also think the tabaco companies should have to pay to help smokers quit. After all they did pay to get us hooked.

Just wanted to give a tip to those who are cutting down dramatically or quitting... drink lots of loose-leaf green tea! It really helps with the cravings, gives you something to do, has all sorts of related paraphernalia, etc...

It's kind of like replacing one habit with another, except green tea is good for you, and may even be anti-cancerous. You can get the real loose-leaf stuff at asian markets or online at places like http://www.adagio.com

Also, the extra water intake is good for you too.

Smoke less!

I was just driving through Missouri and stopped at a restaurant off the highway to grab lunch (The Iron Skillet) and the hostess was smoking at her station!!! That's just messed up how that's still acceptable in parts of the country.

Also strange how most of the roads in that state are letters instead of numbers, the signs looked like scrabble tiles. We speculated perhaps Missouri people couldn't count higher than 9 so found letters easier to work with :).

why is it socially acceptable to publicly criticize smokers? i saw a billboard that read "kissing a smoker is like kissing an ashtray".

can you imagine treating overweight people the same? imagine seeing a billboard with "kissing an overweight person is like kissing a tub of lard".

if you are going to ostracize smokers, at least make smoking illegal. of course that will never happen because the govt relies too heavily on cigarette taxes. i'd like to see pastries and candy bars taxed similarly.

i don't consider smokers idiots. they understand the consequences but feel the enjoyment is worth it. just like the rest of us who eat at mcdonald's or go bungy jumping... or drive our cars for that matter.

by the way, i can't stand second hand smoke. i am for all states banning smoking in public buildings.

excellent post. It is a form of acceptable prejudice. If the same where done in any other situation there would be a lawsuit.
