So, is my 1991 hard-wired for an amp and a cd-changer already?

I see in my trunk that on both sides I have this female coupler that looks like it would go with an amp or cd changer. I have one on either side of the trunk.

Can anyone shed some light on the subject?

My 91 was prewired for the oem cd changer on the pass side of the trunk.
Not sure what your coupler on the driver's side might be.
Possibly the power antenna plug (if you are using a short aftermarket one) or the oem cell phone plug.

You appear to be new around here so if you haven't found it yet, you might want to familiarize yourself with the NSX Wiki which can be accessed from the red action bar at the top of most pages. The Wiki is an invaluable source of information on all things NSX although it is a mix of new and older material (from the previous FAQ). In the Modifying Your NSX section, there is some material on the sound system .. specifically this one: http://nsxprime.com/wiki/CD_Changer which includes the following text:
"There are two DIN cables pre-wired into the trunk on model years where the built-in phone was available as an option. The blue one is for the CD changer, the other one is for the phone."
IIRC, the CD changer connection terminates on the driver's side if you don't have the CD changer .. and if you do, there is another cable which plugs into it and runs under the carpet to the right side of the trunk. The mobile phone option also installed on the right side of the trunk if you have/had one.

In the thread title, you seem to be asking if your car is pre-wired for an amp. There was no factory option for an amp in the trunk. The stereo system is BOSE and all BOSE systems use small amps at each speaker location instead of an amp in the head unit. In the NSX, there are 3 amps .. one in each door speaker enclosure and one in the sub enclosure which is in the footwell. If you're interested in more detail, you might want to check this thread:

agree..if you look close at each of the 2 plugs you will see one has about 9 pins, the other one for the phone has like 30 pins .... but even if it was prewired for amps in the trunk you wouldn't piggy back on them with a 1000W amp will melt the wires.

Thanks all...for both directing me where to find info and also giving me a little

info ahead of a read. The reading is a long slog, but I like learning about this car. The more I read the more I appreciate the engineering that goes into this machine.

As an aside, I have been on this forum, what, two months and I have made some pretty incredible friends already. People have pointed me to info sources and I have learned quite a bit. I have also racked up quite a bit of expenses on buying stuff. Which is fine because if you rode in my car today after the changes I have made, it is night and day different from when I bought it. I loved it then and I love it more now. And, it is getting more and more presentable.

All in all, this has been a very positive experience and I appreciate all your advice.
