hey guys! im new to this forum and i would like to find out what is the best 6.5 two way speakers out there. although i would prefer a component system
but i just dont like to make a hole for the tweeters. how difficult is it anyways to make the holes for the tweeters?

tks guys....

I wouldn't drill a hole for the tweeters...just install them on the same adapter plate with the mids.

I love my Memphis components and bang for buck are awesome... you can go for some of the higher brands over 1k per set but I personally dont have audiophile ears so I saved on that :)

tks for the help guys. if i install the tweeters as pictured, will the tweeters be visible when door panel is put back? i have not taken the door panel out so i am kind of new to this stuff.

I really liked my Boston Acoustics Z6 speakers. They allow the tweet to be mounted coaxial onto the mid or remote mounted. The crossovers allow for biamp contol so you can increase the power to the tweeters (or cut power to the mids) which I found useful when installing the tweets down at the stock location.

Recently, I sold my speakers and was watching auctions on ebay to get a feel for their value. There was a good auction for a new (but resold) set that went for around $300. You can buy a new set for around $500.

They're not cheap but they do sound good and provide flexibility. I think they'd be great for a 5 channel Alpine PDX amp.

NOTE: The crossovers are large! And the speakers are 3-ohm so you need a stable amp to drive. (I used a/d/s for mine).

Good luck with your project.

When Best is used, it will come down to a matter of preference (assuming by Best, that means there is not budget).

Best to us:

Focal
Rainbow
Dynaudio
Morel

All their top of line speakers will start around $5~8K, in any configuration you want.

Its easy to install a tweeter. Its adjusting it correctly that most oversee. The tweeter placement is quite important to what kind of sound you are looking for. Tweeters placed down low will have a "echoey" top sound stage (grand halls), making it seem like you are stading above the performer. We agree with Focal when they say tweeters should go in the A pillar. It brings up the soundstage and images as if the performance was dead in front of you, and your positioned under them (concert style).

The tweet in the door would be easy. A pillar.. gonna need some fill work.

Thanks,

Rich @ HCA

HCA, I'm going to assume you made a typo ($5 but meant 5k?) as you can't buy any of their high end speakers for $5 (not even the crossovers or speaker wires they come with sell for that cheap:) )

For a 2 way front stage (midbass/tweeter) the only brands I can see reaching 5k would be the Rainbow and maybe the Focal Be. Dynaudio and Morel will not cost you that much (just for equipment) but are considered higher end and cost more. However, if there are higher models than the Morel Elates/Supremo/Piccolo and Dynaudio Esotars/Esotec/Sytem GT then I'm all ears in wanting to hear about those.

Here are links to them:
Dynaudio http://www.dynaudio.de/eng/auto/esotec/242gt.php
Morel http://www.morelhifi.com/index.html

There are many brands out there that sound good and don't cost a lot, but there are also the "higher end speakers" that cost more and are suppose to sound better. How much you want to spend does play a factor in your speaker decision.

I will agree with HCA in that it's not always about the speaker brand you chose but how they are positioned/placed in a vehicle and how well they are tuned to that environment that can make or break a sound system.

For example, speakers used in an IASCA winning vehicle will sound really good in that car. Take the same equipment and put it in a different car and it sounds completely different. Why? The inside of every car is different, listening positions are different, material is different (leather, cloth, etc), speaker placement is different, you get the point.

I'd recommend you listen to some speakers at your local stereo shop to make a more informed decision. I'd hate for you to spend tons of money on equipment only to be disappointed. If you are having a local stereo shop do the install, then maybe they can audition the different brands they carry in your car to see which sounds better to you once installed.

There are still many other brands out there so be sure to do some reading :)

Looks great Blury...

No, the tweets will be disguised by the door panel speaker fabric.

If you are going to upgrade your speakers... I HIGHLY recommend that you keep the rear speaker between the seats. I have been through 2 different stereos, 1 without the rear speaker connected and 1 with.

KEEP THE REAR STOCK SPEAKER CONNECTED!

my speaker in the middle works and sounds great! i heard some of you are having problems with them. thank god mine works perfectly with my aftermarket head unit. im still using the AVIC 2 but will eventually upgrade later on. right now, im focusing which components i need to buy. dont want to spend really that much. i just need a decent system with decent sound.

how does mb quarts sound or eve polks? how about kickers?

tks again for your input.....

update: finally installed focal component system and dynamat. sounds really good with just the head unit but still need to install the amp and subwoofer.
i purchased the mounting plate from SOS and it works perfectly.

too late to posts pics of the speakers on the doors but i will posts some...

That's too damn funny. $5,000.00 to $8,000.00 for a pair of 6 1/2" two way car speakers? My Apogee Duetta II's and Velodyne cost less than that. What's even funnier is that the numbnuts who buy that overpriced crap are probably listening to shit sounding compressed MP3's via their silly iPods. :)
