just getting ready to tackle install of my lowering springs...manual says to replace all of the self-locking nuts but I can't find them at any of my local hardware or auto stores. Has anyone re-used the old ones or should I bite the bullet (order and wait). Thanks in advance, RJ

You SHOULD replace the nuts, mostly because the price of failure--while unlikely--is very high.

I replace them, usually. I suspect that most people do not.

These nuts are specially threaded...kinda like a triangle and they tap onto the bolt and do not back out. This special threading is degraded or lost upon installation...which is why it shouldn't be reused. You can't find these at a hardware store.

You can always install the old ones and get the new ones later. Depends on how hard you drive, how often you check over your car and whatever. And how difficult replacing the bolt will be...

If it were _me_, I would do the job, order the nuts and then inspect/install on the nuts at a later date. It is very easy to rip the axle boot, so be careful.

Don't worry about these nuts, they rarely fail. If you are installing new shocks then new nuts should be on the shocks and they will be different than the stock units. If you are using the old shocks then use the old nut. Tightened them up to factory torque specs and relax. I've never seen one of these fail. Doesn't mean it can't happen but as long as you don't over tightened or strip the nut while instaling it, I would rest easy. It's up to you. Your Acura dealer can get you these but they are not cheap.

For the price of the nuts, why scrimp?

I re-use the old ones, use blue locktite and torque them down.
