Judging by the lack of a FAQ or many posts on SRS, this system must be quite reliable. My SRS computer recently fried and replacing it still gives me the SRS warning light. (I replaced one a year ago which solved the problem then).

Does anyone know of other likely trouble spots in the system?
Thanks.

I found out that the cable running through the steering column is a common problem area which makes some sense.
As for your problem, they should know whether the fuse box is the problem. I am no expert in electronics, but if they just bypass the fusebox to test it the SRS light should go out if it is the problem. I'm also surprised the fuse box needs to be replaced as opposed to tinkered with. I'd be leary but again, I have no expertise in this area.

SRS Update

Dealership called today regarding SRS troubleshooting. They replaced the fusebox for a cost of $530 and that didn't take care of the problem, as I figured it wouldn't. Now they want to replace the SRS computer for another $1400. I am really not interested in paying for them to guess. Looks like I will have to figure this one out myself, maybe with a little help from NSXPrime.

That fusebox story sounded fishy. Call Joe at ERZ Motors in New York for used NSX parts at good prices. If you need a SRS computer, mine cost $85 if I remember correctly.
I believe the dealer is supposed to have a SRS test harness which should pinpoint the problem. Let us know what happens.

joe's number is 718-774-7846. He is usually only in late afternoons.
Good luck

Did they call Techline (the service at Acura HQ that helps dealer service departments that can't figure out problems)?

If they don't seem to know what they are doing, you might have better luck taking it to a dealership that does a lot of NSX service work. Sounds like this one doesn't, and is just guessing...

any additional information on this?
my SRS light went on randomly and stayed on while driving my car just now...

Do you have after market Head Unit? Sometimes the new DVD screen and so much wires from the back of the unit pushes the SRS cable out of it's socket.
At least this had happened to me.

OK, I have to add something here
Might be a long shot, but this happened to me.

I had a 92
Drove it 1000+ miles home when I picked it up.
Nice sunny drive, ran with the A/C on all the way.
Well a common problem with the A/C on older cars, is the drain hole in the bottom of the vents under the center console (under the radio and such) gets plugged. (usually from pieces of the foam that is used to get a good seal around opening and closing the vents).
Anyway, when this hole gets plugged, the water accumulates in that little tray.
Now add in some stop and go, and the water sloshes around. Often spilling out mainly onto the passenger floor and carpet area.

It also spills out and runs ontop of the SRS module that is mounted to the frame of the car, under the radio.
This SRS module/circuit board is mounted in a aluminum housing, but not sealed.
In my case water actually filled that aluminum housing to the point it shorted out the ckt board. Damaged the solder joints from the circuit board to the connector.

Its a pain to get in there and get that module out, but if you can, its worth checking out.
I just pulled the thing apart, used a desoldering station to remove the connector off the circuit board, cleaned up the area, and soldered it right back on. Re-installed everything, and all was fine.

Sorry, didn't take any pictures at the time. Know now I should have.

If this turns out to be the problem, and you can do it yourself, or get someone other than the dealer to run though this, you'll save a couple grand!!!
A dealer would remove and replace = couple grand. :-(

thanks for the quick responses
unfortunately, i don't have an aftermarket head unit, and my a/c currently doesn't work (long story about a stubborn dealership service center  )

luckily i don't care too much..... if i can fix it, i'll fix it; if it runs too much, i'll buy the -R steering wheel

thanks again for the input.... i'll let everybody know what it ends up being
