steering wheel and column is moving

hi!

A friend of mine has a problem with his steeringwheel. The whole wheel with the column is moving 1cm to the left and right. Both adjuster are fixed. What is the problem?

had the same issue:
the column is fixed in place with 2 bolt assembly that has special inserts fitting in the steering column bracket. also, close to the universal joint of the steering column, by the pedals, there is a u-shaped bracket fitting over the column AND a plastic tube-like insert. you need to check both locations and most likely you will find that the plastic has crumbled to pieces which allowed the column to move and loosen up the 2-bolt assembly. unfortunately you will have to take off the steering column covers to get to the bolts.
