OK i did a double din in my car (Alpine) . My trusted installer/friend sold me a large line output converter cause the factory speakers are amplified so the gain from the new deck will be at 100% and the you need to be able to turn down the gains so it's not blaring.

I installed it but then I had no volume.

Uninstalled it and hooked up direct now my min volume on the deck is extremely loud on the car and the bass level seems to be low or non existant.

Any ideas on how to get this back to factory levels and sound quality???

Did you install new speakers and an amp or are you still using the oem speakers/amps and just replaced your HU?

If it's the later then you'll need this:

Anyone know how the SOS harness is any different then a oem stereo install adapter..

I have a Apline Double Din and using factory speakers... Looks like theirs would hook into the RCA on the new deck and the rest (bare wires)are for the turn on's for the amps and illumilation? Correct me if I'm wrong?

Just out of curiosity, why would you want the factory speakers? They sound horrible and are prone to failure. You can shed a tiny bit of weight by switching to aftermarket (depending on brand) anyway. Also, remember that the factory system runs the rear center and the sub off of the same wires. You are, no doubt, having the problems you are having because of that. As a test, hook up the LOC(line output converter) and unplug the factory sub plug. If the sound from the door speakers is good then order the SOS harness. If there is still no volume, look for level adjustment pots on the LOC.
Good luck,
Jay

You are correct, the SOS harness lets you use the Pre-Amp outputs of your headunit to supply signal to the Bose Speaker amps. the rest of the wires are for power and illumination.

Can you clarify, How are you connecting to the Bose Speakers? are you using the speaker leads from you head unit? or the Pre-Amp (RCA) outputs?

If you are using speaker leads....that is your problem.

It sounds like you are using amplified out out of the headunit into the amplified OEM speakers. You need to use the line level outputs of your headunit if it has it or a level converter to cut down the output. I don't know why the level converter you had did not work, it might be bad or you connected improperly. I would buy a new level converter and try again.

When first installed I was using the RCA outs on the new deck to the line level then an adapter back to the OEM harness. (min volume... turned all the way up and as still hard to hear)

then

I removed the LOC and went from the new deck speaker lines to the adapter to the OEM harness then I get too much volume from the smallest volume option on the new deck

Often many LOC's have adjustable pots on each channel to set the desired line output level. You may just need to properly adjust these pots if your LOC has them.

The connection to the Stock speakers is pretty simple.

all you need are a few of these

Connect the RCA end to the new head unit and the bare end to the speaker connections on your OEM harness adapter...you can make the same connection for the sub output of the head unit to the sub speaker wire input to supply signal to your factory sub.

Hope that Helps!

You need this adapter

As stated by everyone else, the RCAs plug into your Pre-Outs of your Alpine Headunit. The other wires shown in the picture connect to the Headunit to provide it power, illumination, remote turn-on, etc. The white plastic end of the pictured harness plugs into the factory wiring harness. . .
