Sub behind passenger seat?

I realize this may be a stupid question so please forgive me but I keep thinking about it. Has anyone made a custom sub enclosure to go behind the passenger seat? Would its effectiveness be limited in that area compared to being in the passenger footwell?

Thanks in advance.

Passenger seat offers even less practical room behind it than the driver's seat
Ok - that sounds odd - let me rephrase - when the same space is used for a box behind the passenger seat, the impact is much greater than the drivers side because there is much less legroom on that side already.
Even with a 6" deep box, you are really limited to pretty small volume and 6" is a HUGE impact on the passenger space.

There is an NSX on here that has a sub setup behind both seat. I cant remember whose it was, nor can I find it in a quick search.

I think it was 1TITENSX that posted that system. (And it looked pretty sweet)

As for anything behind the passenger seat, I HIGHLY recommend a big NO on that idea. I looked at this two or three ways and never was pleased. Even considered reworking the floor space by removing all the guts down there so it extends leg room for the seat to move forward, but the end result is a seat that is so close to the dashboard and glove box that it is not desireable.

I built a sub behind the driver's seat and it sounds pretty good. I don't use it much because the toolbox in the passenger footwell space is pretty effective. If you can live with the driver's seat being about 4 inches from the back wall, this area is a workable alternative.

Mermi has sub boxes behind both seats. Besides not working, they use up a lot of room. At least the tops make handy little shelves for small shopping bags. :)

Go with a Zetoolman sub box. The new version that fits behind the OEM carpeting and takes up zero legroom will be out soon.

I had an SWS-10 in a 3" deep box behind the driver seat and it was tight even though I am only 5' 6" on a good day. I ended up with the ztoolbox and I am a very happy camper. And my wife has no issue with leg room......Steve

I have 2 versions of the sub enclosure. Version 2 is about .67 cu. ft. of air space, the loss at the floor is 3",it is best with the JL10W1v2, version 3 will fit behind the carpet without any loss. It should be done this week or next! It will come with the eartquake SWS10.

Let me know if any questions and what I can do for you!

Zetoolman, I am also willing to consider buying one of your wonder box if you have it in RHD version. Any plans? Please?

I have asked now 4 times for a car in SoCal that is RHD to be able to mold it, no reply. So, without a car to work on I can't make one!!

I think you need an all expense trip provided to you for Brunei. :) I hear it's lovely there in the fall.

Come to think of it, I think it is autumn here in Brunei. Flowers and leaves just kept falling off their branches, etc. But don't expect any cool breeze though. It's summer here all year.

Btw, Hugh, maybe you can persuade your friends in SoCal who have right hookin NSXes to lend their NSX to Zeetoolman. It's for a good cause..

I don't know anyone in SoCal who owns a RHD NSX. I'd ask Zeman to contact Mark at Dali, he might know of one.

Kind of off-topic but I didn't want to start a new thread so I figured I'd post it here again. I've decided to hold off on the sub for another few months but decided to go ahead and put some aftermarket components in. This is what its looking out to be:

Focal 165 V1 Components $330
JL E4300 4 Channel Amp $299
JL 4 AWG Amp Power Kit $109
RCA Cable (14') $28
Shop Expense $20
Labor $340
Total $1126

I would expect the total cost to be a little bit high as its a reputable audio shop in the Dallas area (Earmark), but can anyone chime in on whether or not I may be paying too much? Any response is appreciated. Thanks!

I would use the new Alpine digital amp. Very small, heat no problem, 150X4, clean power.

This should be a new thread. But all the prices you are getting are close to retail. A 4 guage amp kit you shouldn't pay much more than $30-40 for. Check eBay to see if buying online is worth not having the warranties, it all depends on you how you want to purchase. The shop has to make money somehow of course so these prices are what you typically see at a shop since they have to KTLO (keep the lights on). You can definitely save money buying online but you will not have the convenience or peace of mind of having a brick and mortar shop to support you. But showing them the prices you can buy on the internet might inspire them to cut you a better deal since they will know you did your research.

Are you referring to the PDX-4.150? Me likey. :) $750.00 list. Typical online price under $475.00
Alpine's downloadable .pdf owners manual suck!

Online review of amp here.

After reading the review, it appears these amps are fantastic for the mid/high frequencies but a bit lacking in the bass dept due to the low damping factor. Maybe a PDX-2.150 for the door speakers and a JL mono amp for Mr. Sub?

Your thoughts Mr. Rapper?

We're going to see a lot more Class D amps powering mids and highs using B&O's ICEpower technology. The PDX has impressive power output for it's size and most people won't really notice the low frequency problems. It might be a while before someone perfects a Class D that will do lows and highs well. This is a great little amp to put behind the seat. SQ freaks may want to stick with Class A or A/B amps on their mids/highs and Class D sub amps are good for the lows. One day Class D is going to be the norm.

I have heard it and the sub sounded better with the new amp!
So, maybe Mr. Rapper is correct, can't hear the difference!
