I'm with you. A buddy of mine works for Thiokol and used to work the SRB Group so spent a lot of time in the shuttle program. It is also his birthday on 1 Feb. Challenger went down in Jan 1986. This time of the year is not good for the space program. I'm pretty sure the Apollo fire was about this time also.
