Hey guys

I was installing my new exhaust tonite and ran into a slight problem. One of the bolts that connect to the center cat wont go in. The top of the bolt hits the piping and it wont line up.

If anyone else has had this problem, im open to any suggestions as to fixing the problem.

Getting a new bolt is my only solution so far.

I've attached 2 pics of the problem area. Sorry for the blurryness, the pics were taken at night under the car. Ill have clearer pics in the morning.

My mechanic reversed the direction of the nut/bolt/ flex spring. If it won't go in like with the stock header turn the bolt/ flex spring/ nut assembly around. It should fit. He also ground down the built-in washer a bit to get it to fit.

Danny

Can you loosen the other nuts and bolts to provide some room for the bolt in question?

no i tried that and it did not help

im thinking it may be a problem with the exhaust adaptors.

Do they only fit one way or is there a chance i may have installed them wrong?

Yes, I had this problem, but it will line-up with some effort. Just like the "big rock" theory of working on the most important items first. Un-do all the other connections and hangers, and hook this toughest one up first, then the easier connections will also go.

how did you hook up the adaptor kit?

does the longer pipe go in the middle or on the right exhaust flange?

I just installed my Taitec last night also....Yep I had the same problem. I just put a bolt in that side and left the spring on the other. I must comment on the quality of these Taitec exhausts. The welds are fantastic and the fitup to the existing exhaust is very good  . The problem is with the radius of the bend in the Comptech adapter, if they just decrease the radius to get a slightly sharper bend and I think the bolts would fit. I guess they are going for the best flow rates. Also installed my sway bars (CT), all the parts are from SOS. Oh I almost forgot...the exhaust sounds great  .

Finally got everthing bolted up

Thanks for the suggestions guys, i just bought a new bolt to put in there and its all good now.

I love the sound of the new exhaust! I finally hear what everyone refers to as the "droning" around 2k rpm when your on the gas, but honestly it's nothing that i havent heared from other exhausts that I've had on my old Civic or Evo. Compared to the sounds of those, this exhaust is relativly quiet and more of a refined deep exhaust note than "droning".

All in all, i think with this exhaust on it, my NSX is one of the best sounding cars ive ever driven.

I'd recommend it to anyone and everyone.

That's good that u now got it fixed. (sorry for the late reply and could have saved u some headaches :frown: )
Actually i came across the same road block u did when i was installing my JGTC.
Fortunately i noticed that the bolts on the bottom cats are diff from the bolts on the upper cats.
Take a closer look at all four bolts and you'll notice that one of the cat bolts are bent and bent on purpose. This is to allow the bolt to get in the hole to the lower cat (the hole inside the bend).
The funny thing was that... my frnd was helping me with the install he jokingly said to me "OHH NO!!! You Bent one of the bolts" and that's how we figured that the bent bolt was to go in that tight fit bend.
Just an FYI and to future 97+ exhaust "DIYS" install.

CONGRATS!!!
