Hi,

I'm 6'5'', and looking to by a 1997 NSX.

Have you met anyone this tall (or taller) who owns an NSX?

What kind of modifications do they make? Is there a particular type of seat that provides a few inches more headroom? Does the coupe have more/less headroom than the T?

Please let me know.

-Brad

Hi Brad -- 6'5 is going to be tight, but you will be able to fit. Tall people often remove the lower seat cushion which gives you about 3-4 inches. You can always just take off the T top as well :-)

Visit
http://www.nsxprime.com/toc.htm and look for info on "seat modifications".

You can also see http://www.scienceofspeed.com/ (click on NSX DIY's) to see what the seat looks like with the cushion gone. Dali racing makes a replacement cushion, or you can make one yourself.

Thanks. I've actually researched this quite a bit and had read about some race seats and swapping the foam out.

I'm wondering if anyone out there that owns one of these cars is over 6'3" and has modified their car to create adequate headroom.

My wife is 6'3", so I need to do both seats. I want the car to look good, so something like Recaro race seats that add a few inches of space is ideal.

A friend of mine who's 6'4" just checked out my NSX. He said it sat better for him than the Ferrari 550, 911 and Viper.

This may sound funny but it will depend on whether you're tall in the torso or legs. If you have long legs you're probably going to find the NSX offers as much leg as you're going to find in car in this class and there's a chance it might work out ok. If you're tall in the torso well.. you might need to move south so you can drive with the top off.

Hope this helps.

Also thought of another thing... remove the headliner materials from the targa top. This might give you another 3/8 of an inch.

Hope this helps.

Start by sitting in a 97 or older NSX to get an idea of how many more inches of headroom you'd need to fit. Don't try a new NSX, the seat starts off very firm/tall and will compact over time, there is a noticeable difference in headroom between a 97 and a 2000. (I know, I tried..)

You can search the topics a few weeks back for a post I made about headroom. Dali Racing now has a replacement seat cushion that will offer close to 2" of additional headroom for a pretty cheap price, and you can basically keep the stock look (no need to buy aftermarket seats).

I'm close to 6'2" and found that with the Dali cushion I have headroom to spare. At 6'5", it's really going to matter how you are proportioned, the longer your legs (compared to torso), the better.

If you're going to be in LA, drop me a line. I'm happy to let you check my 97 NSX-T out to see how you'd fit with the Dali cushion.

Good luck,
Marc

Thanks to everyone who has responded to my question- I really appreciate it.

My wife is long in the legs, so she should be okay with the Dali cushion. I'm pretty proportional (same inseam as my wife) so I may need to do something more aggressive to get a few inches. Besides- full race seats look so cool!

I'll take a look at some mid-year (94 - 97) NSXs to check headroom (I tried a 91 previously) and post results here in the next few weeks. I just hurt my wrist snowboarding, so I can't do any full test drives :-(

Just to throw in 2 more cents, Brad, I am just under 6'5" myself, and fit very nicely into my NSX (91). A lot of my height is in my legs though, I don't even put the seat all the way back, there is really a ton of leg room. If you are tall in the torso though, it could be a bit snug. Good luck
