Targa brace

no supercharger correct?

Science of Speed makes a nice machined aluminum looking one and Pole2Flag is coming out with a CF one. Foundry3 makes a titanium one, but it just looks like welded pipes.

We are making a prepreg targa brace and it will look like a "road bike" frame design around the shock tower side w/o the center support like the 7lb.oem. CF is so much stiffer than metal and it will be much lighter than oem as well. Most likely it will be designed to use without the engine cover which is 15 lbs for the coup and more for the targa. To lose that much weight high on top helps the CG => better handling. We have the highest tint to cover the rear glass to keep the UV away.

We ran into unexpected "Covid" problem in Jan. that was out of our control which put us behind making the straight strut bar for the coup but we are overcoming all the issues and we'll be back soon in regular pace. The "vendor/contractor" we teamed with is quite skilled in tooling which is the key to make CF parts. After we explained to him our active aero project, he realized there is no such a product on the market and the CAD/CFD phase has been done to make it more legit. We agreed to be partners for future projects so we'll have more consistent support. This is great news for all of us despite the Covid set back:mad:..it really sucks.

Please design to work with the Targa cover. I'm not ready to ditch it yet and would want to have some sort of cover to protect from a little pebble shattering the rear glass.

Looking forward to this!

Definitely looking forward to when this becomes available. Aside from the aforementioned risk (And I have to imagine a VERY slight risk), are there any problems with removing the engine cover? That thing DOES weigh a ton and had considered removing it before but wasn't sure if there were any potential pitfalls with removing it...

Matt,
Short ans. - we will make one that get rid of the porky engine cover and it will be more of a triangle shape than the oem A shape (7lbs). The coupe engine cover is ~15lbs. targa cover is noticeably more. If you want to retain the engine cover, then Procar brace is your choice.

Long ans. - to lose that much top end weight using prepreg is a no brainer. Our engine hatch is tinted quite dark to keep the UV bugs away and its hard to see in. We noticed the targa cars tend to flex/talk more than the coupe even during street driving as the A-B pillars are not connected. The prepreg triangle brace will be just as stiff if not stiffer than the oem but a lot lighter and the firewall attachment is likely not as strong as the shock tower attachments so "in theory" it might "talk" back more but that is a WAG.

After we deliver the first batch of the strut bars for the coupe, we will jump on the tooling for the targa cars and provide an est. cost before we layup the prepreg to see the interest level.

Sorry Mod. Could not find the Cottage Vendor link to pay. Plz advise.

Due to your request, we had enough material to make 7 more engine braces without increasing the price which fits the targa or the coupe. Get it before its gone.

$550 shipped to US 48. Ti bolts included. Wt. 0.5 lbs. OEM coupe brace is 1lb. and OEM targa brace is 15lbs. This is a 100% prepreg carbon, not a wet layup which means it is a real upgrade from metal brace.
