My father reports the following with his '91 has ~90K on it.

Drove it about 60 miles this morning, parked it, when getting out of the car he smelled something, thought it smelled like toasted clutch.

Upon on returning to the car 3 or so hours later and starting it the TCS off light turned on, pushing the TCS button doesn't change anything TCS will not turn back on. Car apparently drives fine. Any ideas?

Has any work been done on the car lately?

A code should be stored in the ECU, you can pull the code yourself. The procedure is in the FAQ section. I wouldn't think a clutch that is wearing should cause a TCS issue.

Good luck.

I understand you stated that the parking brake was off but was there a chance the parking brake was left “on” only a click or two?

If you leave the parking brake pulled up (a click or two) and drive for a few seconds the TCS and the ABS will automatically turn off displaying a light on the dash. This is the only thing that I can think of? The only way to reset it once you have manually disengaged the TCS and ABS (by using the parking brake) is to stop the car, turn it off, and restart it. Upon restarting the TCS and ABS will function again.
