Is it possible to upgrade the TCS for older model NSXs to a similar or comparable level of newer NSXs?

There is no documentation for doing so and computer software in cars goes through so many changes that you'd really have to trial-and-error it. Even assuming everything else works out, yYou would probably never be able to swap pre-'95 with '95 or later or pre-'97 with '97 or later because of some pretty fundamental changes made in '95 and '97.

AFAIK there was also a change in MY94 to reflect the changed "baseline" wheel size (16/17). TCS triggers when a front/rear rotation ratio outside +/- 5% of OE

Definitely changed in MY97 (C32 motor), and if I recall correctly there were some fixes made in MY98 (problem with drive-by-wire on MY97 ?).

Just curious - why do you want to change it?

A good reason I heard about a change is that the obd1 pre 95 TCS had a lower frequency and thus only did a "shut down on acceleration" vs. the newer tcs upgrades that ran on a faster processor that was much more like a vette's tcs. This allowed you to floor it/ slip, regain traction and still manage a fast time vs. the older slow tcs that completely bogged the motor for safety. This is what I was told by acura. The may still be complicated since newer tcs unit was on obd2.

Thanks for all the input.

I figured that with newer technology, better computer processing available, it might be possible to change or upgrade an older model NSX's traction control system for a newer one. I was also wondering about the cost to do such a thing.

Wow! This topic was over four years old! I wonder if that's an NSXprime record for reviving an old topic?

Actually, I remember posting this and months later not ever getting a reply so I just figured no one knew or cared. I thought of it again (seven years later) and saw something while dream shopping on ScienceofSpeed.com that peaked my attention. Speaking of which, thanks Lud for stepping up with an answer for me.

I saw this on Science Of Speeds site: http://www.scienceofspeed.com/products/engine_performance_products/NSX/AEM/EMS/default.asp

Under the info section on this AEM programmable system was this:

This device disables the factory traction control system. However, a user programmed traction control system that is far more advanced than the factory TCS system is available.

Does this mean the user has to use a trial and error method of getting the traction control set up? Or are there already baseline set ups that can be programmed? I wonder if there are any prime members that have "upgraded" or changed their TCS.
