Hi,
I'm currently looking for an extremely good car alarm. I understand that any DEI certified alarm would suffice, but am looking for the Clifford Avantguard 5.5X. http://www.cnet.com/4520-10602_1-5619682-1.html?tag=feat.2
Anyone know where I can get one of these in the states? There is only one website I found and it's listed at 799.99. Kind of looking for a better price. Thanks.

For $799 you could just install a nice quick release steering wheel and take it with you.

planning on a short boss hub (splash), and FET quick release all ready. just looking for more options. I know that if they thief wants the car, he'll get it. Just making it as hard as possible for him. I'm also looking at the Viper 7900, which costs a heck of a lot lower.

Good choice! Clifford has been a leader in alarm systems for years and the only system I would install on my car. With that said, I'm not sure of the quality since they were bought by DEI. If you find any reviews and/or a better price please post it up for future reference. Thanks!

that remote is HUGE. any viper 2-way is going to work for you, why pay the premium for that one? they work off the same inputs and sensors. i like the new LE that i used in my car as its 2 way without the screen. no bulky remote to carry.

+1 quick release + lojack +the club to deter most freeloaders.

the club to deter most freeloaders.

are you serious? the trick for this is cut the steering wheel, bend, and remove...easy as that. I guess I can get that one thing that locks up the brake/clutch pedal.

That article was from 2005 hence you have that huge remote. Clifford was bought by DEI as mentioned. In fact, some of the models are exactly the same as the Vipers so it doesn't matter which version you buy, they will be exactly the same other than the color.

I would buy one of the newer ones rather than hunting down this dinosaur.

I have an AWESOME installer for alarms. He does it on the side...used to do it for a living. He is VERY meticulous about installs...no leftover screws, solders/shrink wraps, great wire management etc. Fair $$ and follows up on issues well. He is in L.A. PM me if you need his contact info. Known him for over 20 years.

you got to do as much as you can to deter thieves, or you just might end up looking like this.

quick release and hub lock highly recommended!

insurance is a pain in the butt even if you have full coverage.
you'll never get the money for your mods and finding a replacement nsx is near impossible.

Update...

After considering having a transmitter the size of a small bible, I bought the Clifford RSX 3.3x. I have had their older systems before, the one with the top view of the car. This one is so much better. The transmitter is smaller and light weight, uses CR2032 batteries, not those darn AA batteries. Some pretty cool LED on the left side through the plastic, and it's only an inch thick. Love it.

thats the same as my viper just a different shaped remote. i love it but the paint seems to come off easily.

It's not the same, from what I understand DEI did not change the components and scope of the system with Clifford as they did with other alarm companies which they bought out...

on certain models. i was under the same assumption as i just put in a clifford that was completely different, but for certain lines they are a rebadged alarm.theres a viper, clifford and python version and the only difference is the shape of the remote.

that is the same as my responder LE. its a new alarm from DEI, with on-board remote start relays for a change and an on-board port for the trilogix style bypass they have redone.

I noticed that both the viper and clifford alarms were the same as well. I went with clifford because I've had them before and feel better to have them than viper (although the same). Either way, better than not having an alarm.
